I remember watching him in his early years for Durham and having a lot of promise. So impressed at what he's achieved as an umpire, which we don't see watching England. This summer showed us the good and bad of our own umpires. 93% success rate on third-umpire reviewed decisions is unreal.

Aye he was a excellent. When he could be arsed to get the teams out on the field

Mentions that he didn’t really enjoy the game as a player. Plenty of cynical quips to be made there!

Hands tied by the ICC regs, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt.

At the time he played (made his debut under Roseberry IIRC) it was unthinkable we'd win a Championship and a one day trophy in just a few years!
