Mercury Music awards 2025 in Newcastle

That new arena is still just a patch of land

The new arena is far too small too, no ambition
Manchester and Leeds are my favourites. I love the horse shoe type shape. It makes it far more intermit even though there's thousands in.

Been to the coop arena and blew me away

Seeing wolf Alice at Leeds in December, first time trying that arena out

One of the worst venues around
6 toilets for 10,000 people, an absolutely abysmal place.

The Hydro in Glasgow is a bit like a Horse show design but still done in a way it can accommodate sporting events.

Manchester can be used a full oval, but they put the stage at one end for gigs. It looks like they're wasting loads of seating but it's canny high. Similar to a baseball stadium.

Just a reminder these awards aren’t coming to the north east out of the good of their heart, they go with the highest bidder and Newcastle has the money courtesy of our mayor

zero invites for any of the record shops in newcastle that have hosted in stores for years, been selling records when they were out of fashion and supporting the music industry. and that's just part of it

v disappointing, but not surprising

sure there'll be a load of back slapping and congratulating going on

I went to a fringe event on Tuesday at the glasshouse for this

First 2 acts were great, but then the 3rd introduced a song saying, I wrote this at Sunday for Sammy about how great it is to be a Geordie 🤣🤣🤣

Left pretty soon after that
Got to a couple of the fringe events last weekend. No real interest in tonight's back-slapping nonsense, but thought the fringey bits were a great idea. Popped a bit onto my blog, in case anyone's interested:

Awards ceremonies are dogshit. No exceptions.

I enjoyed Pauline but had to bale out before Milky Wimpshake. Always good to have a chat with her and Rob.
