Members Forum - Tuesday

We might easily be the only side in England that have injuries and call ups and also have such a small number of players on the books.

That boils down to poor recruitment/lack of it. We had other options available for the T20, just our head coach decided against it. Macalindon carried the drinks in every game for example. Likewise in the red ball game, we had options and only now where the hand is forced are we seeing some promising displays from players like Macintosh and previously Bushnell. In Macintosh I believe we have a very promising wicket keeper, he looks at home already, very good. Just give them game time and show belief in them which I don't think this coach has done this season so far.

I was there and asked whether they thought that The Hundred had benefited Durham on and off the pitch. I asked this as I believe we have gone backwards (apart from last season’s 50 over campaign) since Franklin was allowed to go off to coach one of the franchises. All we got was how all the players love it because of the financial rewards and how it’s here to stay. Wish I’d been more specific in my question now - we are deteriorating underFranklin in my opinion

Sadly, I fear that with Franklin at the helm we risk losing good (or potentially good) current players who are disillusioned and will either not be offered new or attractive contracts, or decline them and seek opportunities elsewhere. Furthermore, his reputation amongst agents and players from elsewhere will be a disincentive for decent players to join us. I honestly believe we had the players to earn us promotion this year but the lack of good leadership has held us back.

I just don't think we had a bowling attack capable of that, especially when Potts got selected for England.

I took the point that rushy, Raine, Potts and carse would make a very strong quartet capable of getting runs anarl however Potts has been a revelation, carse has barely played in years so I wasn't ready to pin my hopes on him and 4 bowlers isn't enough..we seem to have discarded Salisbury and the two bairns aren't ready to carry an attack. Raine is what he is.

None of this mean I think Franklin's done an acceptable job but I don't worry he's so bad it'll lead to an exodus or prevent us attracting players. I'd hope his position is reassessed at the end of the season - not something I felt comfortable asking yesterday 😂😂

Yea. I was impressed with Macintosh and Macalinden looked like he could be the next one to properly come through.

- for those who attended doesn't this read different to what Marcus North said last week. My understanding was North said initial talks had taken place but it's now above his level and it's with the top knobs now?

The PCA are pushing massively for less cricket being played across the professional structure in this country

The 8 counties that play at test grounds are bound to support these suggestions. They will be guaranteed a place in the top league.

They also get more money than the rest for hosting hundred games.

I wonder if anyone at ECB has realised that a reduced county championship could mean more hundred games.

Of course they have. Player workloads my arse.

That's not what the PCA are saying though.

Player welfare my arse. 80 of them have put their names forward for the big bash in Australia

Aye but that's not played during our season. As you reported back from the members forum that North said all the players want to play in the 100 and the young players are chasing the money.
It all points to within the domestic season less championship cricket. For example Durham playing 7 first class matches in 7 weeks to fit in other forms of the game and turning the cricket ground into an outdoor concert arena for 2 weeks in mud summer.
I don't like it and people on here probably think iam negative about county cricket but I'm surprised there hasn't been even bigger changes already.

Yes I get they want to chase the money but this welfare excuse is exactly that.... It's a load of shite. If they feel they're playing too much English Spring/Summer cricket then the last thing they should be doing is putting themselves forward to travel and play the game 12000 miles away. Surely if you're fatigued/wanting a reduction of game time then it seems a little hypocritical to then put your name down to play in Australia during our winter...

I'm not disagreeing with you but what they will say is the big bash is in December and January. So they can have 2 months break either side of it.
I actually don't think the domestic schedule for a standard county cricketer is as much as it was 20 years ago apart from the first 6 weeks of the domestic season now which can be a bit of an ask especially for bowlers.
It basically all points to less first class cricket and probably 50 over as well.
