Mayenda discussion thread

I’m sure a 19yo kid in a foreign country is going to improve massively by having a load off aggressive blokes shouting, swearing and posting about him.
He’s here to score goals to fire us to promotion. You either have it or you don’t.

I can’t remember Kevin Phillips being bothered about what the fans said, he did his talking on this pitch in the second tier.

Subjected too? He's was applauded off pitch today when he came off and I heard no one having a go.
That’s because the fans at the game react differently to the firestick fans mate.

The fans at the match were gutted he didn’t score but realise that he’s trying his best.

He was applauded off because he’d tried his best.

that used to be good enough for our fans.
Seems like these days a lot don’t think giving ya all is enough.

19 or 90 years old, he’s a professional footballer. He’s missed 2 sitters in 3 days that’s arguably cost us 5 points.
He alone hasn’t cost us 5 points. He’s been one player who has been responsible. I don’t see how abusing him is going to help anyone.

Social media wasn’t a thing in the 90s and he wasn’t a teenager in a foreign land. Do you think he missed on purpose and isn’t gutted about it?

I’m not debating he may be devastated and may be the loveliest lad in the world. He could be.

Frankly I couldn’t give a shit.

I want a striker who scores goals.

Blame the man who signed him then instead of slating a kid doing his best.

I do but in the heat of the moment when I watch him head a sitter wide of the post I’m not going to clench my fist and shout “Speakman!” am I?
I’m not on about you or “heat of the moment” in a stand or at home but the posts I’ve seen and the stuff I heard today that isn’t heat of the moment.

A lot of them were made at the time he missed his chance and within an hour of the final whistle in a game we lost in the 92nd minute.

Emotions run high.

I was really frustrated yesterday and especially when he missed that header. He isn't good enough in front of goal and its showing. I actually thought he give Gooch a very uncomfortable game running at him and he had the beating of him comfortable at times. In front of goal he just goes to pieces. He's not a striker. Other than comments on social media, I haven't actually heard anything overly critical at games and certainly not anything noticeable. I've never thought he was really good enough tbh, even when he scored a few earlier on in season. Strange feelings for me, as it's definitely frustrating as points we've dropped where we shouldn't have, we'd be looking in a great position. Flip side, we've without doubt made very positive strides and are genuinely looked at as 1 of the best teams in league now. Compare that to how we ended last season and it's good going. Can see both sides of it though and like you say, one thing you can't criticise is effort and application.
