Max Power

Good memories of Max Power at Bradford. Just back from a three game ban and he decides to boot one of their players in our own box off the ball, give a penalty away and get himself sent off again.

Clown.

Ruined him that did

He looked alright up until that point used to be aggressive and get in the box …then turned into another holding midfielder along with Catts Mcgeoch and Leadbitter

I liked Max, and still do. He's one of very few signings of that era that I thought were good additions.

Think it says a lot about him that when we were at Wigan and won 3-0 he got dogs abuse all game, but despite that the first thing he did on full time was head over to the away supporters and applaud us.

Saw him at Blackburn away in our end earlier this season too. MLF.
He got dogs abuse because he spent the full game in the reverse fixture (won 2-1 at home opening day of the season) doing everything possible to wind up our fans and players. He was the only one of our ex players (Wyke, McClean, Jones, Power) to get cheered/applauded pre-match then did the slow walk to the corner flag tapping the Wigan badge walking over to take the first corner minutes in and continued from there. Went on like a complete tit.

Don't doubt he enjoyed playing for us - plenty of people said they'd bumped into him down Roker and he was always complimentary. But also think it kind of sums him up a bit - he was pretty crap with limited ability, spent most of his career in League One (Wigan immediately binned him off first time around after promotion), thought he was far better than he actually was but was more concerned with being a bit of a worky ticket and winding up his former club and fans than anything else. He was always absolutely shocking whenever he played against us, was always far too emotional wanting to get the better of us and was abysmal.

I had an irrational hatred for him. It just couldn’t and still can’t believe how shit he was and that he captained our club. 🙈

I kind of understand it, don’t know if it was irrational hatred but just shock and how quickly we had gone from having someone like Kirchhoff in our midfield to someone like Power.

I think I was in shock for about 2 or 3 seasons.

Probably because we'd slid from PL to L1 in the blink of an eye. Shock was widespread, mate. To paraphrase Steve Bruce, we'd gone from shopping at Waitrose to scouring the aisles at Netto.

Power definitely wasn't the best, but at least he tried, unlike the human leeches that are Rodwell and Poveda.

He was a trier, but L1 was his glass ceiling that never got shattered. Even when he went up with Wigan (twice), he was ineffective in the Championship and got relegated straight back down.

I wonder if he still points like a premier league player though?
