Matty Potts

There's been a few on here watching him for a few years wondering and hoping he'd making a good county player but this year we could see he was better than that. THF after watching him and seeing the nature of his wickets for Durham I'd half expected him to open the bowling yesterday. Think he's the real deal.

then why are you calling him a fast bowler we've produced?

We'll never know but would be interesting to see what recognition, if any, he'd have got if stokes wasn't the captain and ended up playing a few games with him this season to see him up close.

I think people had already taken notice. You can't exactly hide being first in the table for wickets. I reckon when Durham have a player he's not ignored, especially a bowler. This 'you have to play for Surrey' to get noticed' might be true for some Counties but Durham has a good reputation.

Oh aye, he was already on the radar, not convinceded he'd have gone straight into the side though, nor been given as much responsibility as he has. first change coming on before stokes, do you think that would happen if root was still captain?

this wasn't meant as a 'aren't durham hard done by' it's just interesting how the fine margins, chance and timing of things can have such a massive part to play in the careers and fortunes of cricketers, and life in general.

Yes it would have, Root has picked more young players than any captain in our history.

Probably would have if Root was still captain because Stokes would have been in his ear to tell him to pick him. Durham seem to have had a bowler continually in the England side for the past 20 years so there's always been someone in the captain's ear telling him about the next Durham bowler coming through.

Aye yes, good point. durham are the only county who produce young players, how could i forget

it's possibly, i dont think you can argue that stokes playing alongside him for a few games in the run up will have played a huge part though. it's all irrelevant now of course though

Eh? Confused by your response, had nothing to do with what I said

Just checked in on the cricket and had a look at Potts, I'm not a cricket expert like the majority on this forum so it was a nice surprise to see another local lad doing really well.

Potts, Rushy, Raine and Badger all MLFs. Anyone know if any of the footballers follow Durham?

No idea but i find it alot less likely, given the vast majority probably hadn't even heard of durham until they came up to sunderland for a medical. maybe among the local lads in the academy

Called into the England ODI squad, which probably means the earliest Durham will see him (if at all this season) is September.
