Math problem

3x - 10 = x +30
3x - x = 30 + 10
2x = 40
x = 20

That makes the original equation:
(3 x 20) -10 = 20 + 30
60 -10 = 50
50 = 50
I don't think it really mattered. The whole point of the original OP was so the word 'math' could be used to remind everyone that the bloke lives in North America now.

Simplifying
3x + -10 = x + 30

Reorder the terms:
-10 + 3x = x + 30

Reorder the terms:
-10 + 3x = 30 + x

Solving
-10 + 3x = 30 + x

Solving for variable 'x'.

Move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right.

Add '-1x' to each side of the equation.
-10 + 3x + -1x = 30 + x + -1x

Combine like terms: 3x + -1x = 2x
-10 + 2x = 30 + x + -1x

Combine like terms: x + -1x = 0
-10 + 2x = 30 + 0
-10 + 2x = 30

Add '10' to each side of the equation.
-10 + 10 + 2x = 30 + 10

Combine like terms: -10 + 10 = 0
0 + 2x = 30 + 10
2x = 30 + 10

Combine like terms: 30 + 10 = 40
2x = 40

Divide each side by '2'.
x = 20

Simplifying
x = 20
