Marks & Spencer’s to close In Sunderland

Not surprised at all, but surprised they're not opening a food hall out of town somewhere. It's a fair distance from some parts of Sunderland to Washington. I know they wanted one on their list of locations they're looking for.

I think they would do well even just to take a small unit on Keel Square (or in the Bridges) for M&S Food - would surely be a money spinner still as that part of the shop must be doing well still. The rest of it was obviously failing for years.

Out of town would be better imo, M&S is done as a high street retailer. Other than Newcastle and Morpeth, they're all out of town now in the North East and Morpeth will likely survive as it's Morpeth and attempt to build anything out of town there and the NIMBY's are out.

North of the city would be better and then you'd cover places like Whitburn and Cleadon aswell who'll likely use it. Not sure where though mind, not many free spots atm.
