Marc Guiu - Boomerang Transfer confirmed

Don’t think he played particularly well tonight but if we are wanting a different kind of profile striker to Mayenda and Isidor, then I’m not expecting somebody with pace. As the game went on, his hold up play and lay offs improved.

Would like to see us sign another striker but I’m certainly not writing him off yet

(Should’ve took a penalty like)
I think he has b een brought in with the kidea of playing mayenda just behind him in the 4231 in some games. Whether that works remains to be seen, but i think his hold up play and ability to sniff out chances in the box are the reasons he came in. Very poor tonight, but we are so quick to write players off its unbelieveable

What makes you think that?

Looked slow and with a poor first touch. Could be just lack of fitness and match sharpness. He must have something about him to be signing for Chelsea so I'll just wait.

Not convinced that he's going to score a bucket load. Didn't see much in the way of any hold up play, and he's not exactly got the pace to be chasing balls down or being a nuisance upfront. Looks like the lad has a lot to learn.

Still think we need a striker or we'll struggle. Can't really be expecting 19 yr olds to be leading the line without any previous for a PL side battling to stay up.

Massively undecided on him at the moment- looked decent first few mins against Burnley and then didn't do much else. Today isolated first half but had a couple of chances. Took forever to get his feet sorted early on with one and lost it, then manipulated the ball quite well for the next and fluffed the finish. There was a few balls put in for him and ahead of him second half where I thought he should have done better. But took the goal well.

I hope he fires into action with some involvement and goals now but he looks too much like someone who needs a lot of time and patience than someone ready to come in and make a difference.
Agree with all that - he’ll need service though but at least he gets in the right positions. That said I’d be looking at bringing another striker in, money permitting, as it’s a bit of a gamble relying on what we have.

Im more worried that we dont seem to be creating many opportunites for the strikers. Had Mayenda put that away early against Burnley its a different game, however second half we never really looked like scoring despite chasing the game. It was tough to watch, and the strikers were starved of chances

It’s a big ask and a lot of pressure for one of Mayenda or Guiu to lead the line in the premier league at 20 and 19 respectively in a side that is likely going to need to real clinical decisiveness in front of goal.

When he started up top for chelsea last season in europe, he seemed to drop deeper at times allowing the wingers space to get in behind. I assumed that might be what weve seen in him and why we brought him here

He only played something like 6 times against very weak opposition in a dominant Chelsea side. It's a completely different proposition for the lad here.

God knows but first half we were crying out for one of the strikers to drop in and offer an out ball / hold it up. Isidor done it once or twice but not enough.

Mind you first half we had no pace in wide areas to go past him anyway.

Fully agree with the level of opposition and the dominance of chelsea in europe. It was more so the way he played and was seemingly a hard worked off the ball too. Early days but i have faith he will be a decent enough signing (based on a hunch more so, as the evidence is so 50-50 as to if he will or wont if we are being fair)

Tough call isnt it. Mayenda gets into more positions, but missed the chances Wilson would probably put away.
Not sure why there's a clamour to play Wilson up front. Lost his place last season because he was miles off it and is completely weak as piss when the ball is played into him.

Agreed. He can play up front and you barely notice him, he never challenges for the ball. Scond half tonoght suggested he could be a threat wide left.

I agree. I think Wilson is more clinical but may not get into the positions Mayenda does anyway and generally needs the ball played in front of him being somewhat one dimensional as a centre forward.

I can see why the club might want to persist with Mayenda given what maybe is available and what it would cost in the current market, but we can't miss chances like against Burnely with any regularity and stay up.
