i remember saying when bruce was ehre, january is a amssive window for us as we haven't really bought apart from our sales. That has kind of gone out the window because of our recent upturn, but i really can't see us spending big in the summer either.as the window slams shut

Seems like Ashley thinks its a good gamble, 10-12M for a striker who does have an excellent goalscoring record, albeit in Germany.
If he turns out gash you lose a few million on re-sale
If he scores a reasonable amount 5-10 it helps win matches, higher league position and you get your money back or a couple of million more.
He does well 15-20 and you double your money (compare Spurs asking 20 Million for Defoe)
I fancy the last two.
I think most would have been happy to see him given a chance at the sol.
