I think their manager is the main reason for their form. He's brilliant unfortunately. Can only hope the next big Ashley fuck up leads to his exit. Does anyone believe that if they get promoted that the FSW will be content with a season objective of avoiding relegation?

I wouldn't say he's brilliant. He failed to motivate them enough to get them out of danger last year.

Newcastle have sold their players for big fees and assembled a very good squad for that league.

Add to that Rafa's experience and the sheer fact Newcastle (as we would be imo) are the biggest club in that league, and they should be up there really.

If they don't get promoted this year they have well and truly fucked up.

McCarthy got us promoted from that league.

Brilliant?....f***ing Hell.

All I can say is that you're not very good at maths.

Well I would expect a Mag to stick his head in the sand and imagine that Benitez is a genius.

He went away to the worst side in the league and played one up front when you needed to win. He has swapped a premier league squad for a championship one for no profit. Cut it any way you want....massive loss last year/big profit this year. It amounts to the same result.

Cyril was right about you being shit at Maths then

pfff goalkeeper. On yer bike

Cyril was right about you being shit at Maths then

2015/16 - spent £75.2 million received £2 million Loss £73.25 million
2016/17 - spent £55 million received £85.3 million Profit £30.3 million

bottom line - swapped a premier league squad for a championship squad for a£43 million loss

Like I said. You bury your heads in the sand. That's bad business and a waste of money. No matter how many times you claim my maths are bad those are the figures.

You said Benitez had 'massively outspent all his rivals' when he clearly hasn't has he?.....unless you're trying to say he was in some way responsible for what was spent in 2015-16?

15 players left and he brought 11 in, has reduced the wage bill significantly and also made a £30m profit. His net spend is the lowest in the division and possibly English football.

Yep...you discount the money spend to assemble the squad he sold.

Just ignore it.

It doesn't count it just disappears.

He's great.

Bottom line is in the last 18 months NUFC have swapped a premier league squad for a championship one for a £43 million loss. No amount of quibbling will alter that figure as a fact. It hasn't been good business like you want to believe.

So was he responsible for the money spent in 2015-16? A simple yes or no will suffice.

You're talking about two completely different issues man.

No I am not.

I am saying he has traded down for a club loss.
it's just the same, nowt can be said against benitez.

3 defeats already, 2 at home, smells like a potential play off place could be the finish.

then its pressure on. I just wonder when sackings start across Europe whether benitez could be away? He knows no matter what, the daft sods will support him, but if a real big job arose, it will be interesting

Not sure any big club would touch him now. His motivation is money now it seems. He has taken bagfuls of cash to join the Mags.

The big worry is, that when they are promoted (probably by end of February), FMA will back RB to the hilt.
Benitez will strengthen the team paying little heed to what happened during this season. He is hard headed and pragmatic and won't feel loyalty to players who he doesn't think might cut it in the PL.
Thank the Lord he wasn't appointed 4/5 games earlier than he was !
Mind it has to be said that the Chship (always still really Div 2 to us veterans), is a mediocre league, and with the large parachute payment, mags, Norwich and villa should be shot with shit if they don't make it back straightaway.
They have a huge squad full of second division level players. They will need to replace them with Premier league players, they will be selling them for large fees like sissoko and wijnaldum. Some will not leave as they are on good wages etc.
