Short lost the plot after MON, he tried to take the reins, he should have sacked Di Canio and never gone for Di Fanti, that's the big reason we're in this mess now, there was no longer people like Quinn around to let him know it was a shit idea to go with Di Canio and an ex-agent as a DOF. Poyet came in as a fire-fighter, he kept us up, then Short allowed good players to go and sanctioned the ludicrous Rodwell transfer with a new puppet called Congerton. Poyet was allowed sign some players, but there was a sense that he was also being undermined a bit, I'm not saying Poyet would have signed great players if left to his own devices, but the problem stemmed from the DOF thing and not having a good long-term plan in that summer after we sacked MON, Di Canio should never ever have got the job.
The person to blame for this mess is Short I'm afraid, he has invested a lot and we're still in the PL, but the problems all started with his crazy decision-making.
While I think there's some truth here, there are a couple of points I'd take issue with. Firstly, let me say that I agree that Short's management of the club has been very poor and that's partly because he has some very poor people around him like MB as CEO. Di Fanti was a complete disaster and brought in a huge amount of dross on far too much money so I can't argue with that either. In general terms, I'm just not a fan of having a DoF but if we have to follow this path, I'm still undecided about Congerton because the poor guy is still trying to clear up Di Fanti's mess and that will take at least another couple of windows. I understand the view of Di Canio but in his defence, he was saddled with the crap Di Fanti bought and he didn't want. He also managed to spot the problems with the club very quickly and did try to stand up to the lazy fuckwits who are still dragging our club down. If he'd been backed instead of being sold down the river I suspect he would have been quite good.
