Maddison to Spurs

I think he's quality personally, be even better in a good side. If Spurs end up keeping Kane they have a seriously good front 4.

If the mags are being ambitious then they really want to be doing better than Maddison.

The clamor for him, and bitterness about not signing him from some of their fans is weird, and seems to stem from the fact they missed out on him last year, and still want to prove they "can have him if they want to".

They've moved on, he'd have been a good signing last year but he's not Champions league quality.

Good player, but get the impression he doesn’t have the desire to get to the top

Very Spursy signing in that regard

Spurs regularly play in the champions league

He is

The headchoppers missing out and talking about money is objectively funny. This is just reminding them that there is a glass ceiling - no matter how many petrodollars you have - and that London FC will win out if all things are equal.

That being said, I do think Maddison is the classic big fish in 'small' pond type. A talent who is indulged in a completely free role, but who won't get that freedom as he moves up the pyramid (with all respect to a club who've done brilliantly in recent years). Similar to why he hasn't really made an impact for England IMO. He'll need to show something extra to kick his career on. Good price, though.

Yeah maybe

I think spurs are a pretty good team despite the criticsm they get and I can kind of see him just helping them convert from a counter attacking team to one who can dominate the ball more

Seems most have similar reservations to you

I always just look at how talented a player is. And he’s really talented, so I think a good manager should be able to unlock that.

Decent enough signing but don’t think any of the clubs who have champions league ambitions this season will be particularly worried.

Probs fair
Sure. But they’ve won one trophy since 1999. And none in the last 15 years.

So not really at the very top

Well not winning the league no, but I don’t buy into this anti spurs narrative because they ain’t won a league cup or someit

When I was growing up spurs were mid table and often bottom half, so it’s always perplexed me that spurs in the top 4 is not seen as a huge achievement

He probably looked at what's going on up the road and thought "bollards to that". Mind, it'll be a challenge unravelling the Spurs way of playing, especially with Ange.

The mags, as do all of us know Maddison and he's a decent player. They've been played and gazumped by a non champions league so the toys are out of the pram.

I, like many others don't know anything about this Italian they are on about signing so he'll be seen as a Carlos kick a ball in comparison.

Do they think Bruno and co joined Newcastle because they love the idea of living in the north east of England. Or is it because they’re owned by Saudi Arabia and paying them over 100k a week?

Could see them getting back to it under Ange tbf. Their big issue has been dreadful coaching over the past year or so. Might take a bit of time if/when he chooses to move away from the back three, but they've got lots of good players.

Maddison is certainly very talented. For me, its a question of whether he can move beyond being a bit of a Le Tissier. He's made the move now (the one that Le Tissier shied away from). If he can adapt to a club where he's more 'one of many' rather than the talisman of the team, then he'll do well.
