Lyndon Gooch

I never felt as though we give the lad the send off he deserved before he left.

Would be class to get a banner or flag sorted for him when he returns with Huddersfield. He absolutely loved/loves SAFC.
I liked Gooch he gave his all and worked his socks off but he played for us in our worst time as a club in my lifetime. Bang average footballer. A round of applause is more than enough

How a club like Sunderland even competed in that hideous competition shows you how
Far gone we were

It is what it is, we competed in it and won it. I have fond memories of that day, a brief bright light in what was a dark period for most people and I don't mean in football terms. It broke our Wembley hoodoo, we've now won in three consecutive games there.

I personally hope that he returns to the stadium of light at some time in the future, with a newly promoted team. It's probably not likely top happen at Huddersfield but more surprising thing shave happened.

Well I wasn’t at that Wembley final obviously.

However I was at the Portsmouth one. Up to the penalty shootout it didn’t feel any less an occasion than other finals/playoffs I have been to with the lads.

We competed because it was our level at the time. 4 years in League 1 and we never once reached the FA Cup third round, where we have normally entered the competition.

Fans all over the country support teams at many different levels and it means just as much to them as it does to any of us.
