LVCC Yorkshire v Durham

96 overs to go but the draw looks certain. Phil Jaques has owed Yorkshire that after a very average season.

Can points be deducted for a lifeless pitch? Never any intention of playing for a result these fuckers.

I'd rather see 15 wickets in a day than 1100 runs inside three days

A slightly different opinion to the one you offered in post 108. ;)

While you are all doom-mongering here you've lost sight of the fact we are still in the driving seat as, even after a freak record-breaking partnership, they are still 23 behind with a wicket down. When normal service is resumed they are just as likely to be all out in the 400-430 region, leaving us with a simple task to knock off the runs.

151-1 with Jacques nailed on for a ton . We definitely won't win this by an innings now. Just hope we can have ourselves enough time for a quickfire chase.

cleary you haven't got the kiss of death powers i put on display in this thread brandy, nice try though.

shame that after such a fantastic show from day 1,2 & half of day 3 it looks like this match has petered out into a draw, can't see us getting anything now, other than closing the gap by a point or two.

What's your point? Post 108 was comments regarding how well Day 1 had gone for us. Nothing in that post was a contradiction to the one you quoted.

you did rather relish the free scoring Durham batting, yet the "flat pitch" only became an issue when Yorks were batting well on it ;)

Well fuck me, who'd have thought it - a Durham fan being happy about Durham scoring over 500 .

My delight in us (surely) avoiding defeat by scoring so well, evaporated on the realisation that the road like qualities of the pitch would be the eventual winner.

If we can take 20 wickets on it, we clearly deserve to win. If we can't, ten Yorkshire have got their wish.

Pitches like this get hugely criticised if they're prepared for a Test Match. Why should this be any different?

Told youse last night, they've prepared a dull lifeless pitch to ensure that barring a freak run like this morning, they'll ease to a draw and remain firm favourites for the title. Obviously nothing against the rules but slightly annoying.

Not in the spirit of the game though ;)

whilst it's tongue in cheek brandon raises a point about how if the pitch is terrible and 20 wickets fall on a day you get deducted points but if its prepared to offer nowt then its fair.

which is ridiculous considering its a deliberate act to kill off a game by preparing a flat pitch whilst its generally not intentional but just bad workmanship when the pitch is a wicketfest.

recall the terrible test series in WI when we collapsed out for 50-60 odd in the first test and lost and then every other match was pancake track 600 plays 600

I think you are allocating too much significance to the pitch, especially at this level. 20 wickets went down in 7 sessions so there can't be too much wrong with it, on the 4th day you would expect it to get harder to bat on. In any case, the players still have to actually play the game, and if the batsmen lose concentration they'll still be in trouble, you just have to play well.

There are other issues though but. As this is not at HQ, do YCCC have any say in the pitch preparation? I remember some years ago Essex were docked points for a dreadful pitch at Ilford (which have also played on) when it was a council groundsman iirc.

well let's hope the pitch ultimately becomes an irrelevance & we get the points. I doubt any side would've prepared a minefield given the cirumstances. shame the game wasn't at Headingly 10 years ago

the 'road like' quality of the pitch was almost certainly the reason for the 500+, you've only to look at our miserable return of batting bonus points for evidence. just saying you can't argue it both ways marra ;)

But then how do you explain the batting bonus kings not being able to rack up even 300? You can't just ignore half the evidence because it doesn't fit the hypothesis.

Either way, there is still plenty of time in this game to get the right result, if they apply themselves properly tomorrow.

I'm not arguing it both ways. Seriously, are you definitely reading my posts? I was pleased we racked up the runs but always worried about the difficulty in taking 20 wickets.

If you check my posts I think you'll see that.

As for the bonus points, playing our home games at Durham has always meant we rarely score big at home.

This game has been scheduled since the beginning of the season and Scarborough has been a great pitch for batting all season and every season. It's pathetic to suggest they have prepared this wicket for a draw and other counties have probably got a better argument about our pitches suiting our strengths.
