Lancs picked up a 2nd bowling point. Still need another 3 for the final one but better than nothing I suppose.
 
Looking like its in Durhams hands to finish second at least, providing Lancs and Hants don't come to some sort of agreement.
 
Lancs miss the last bowling point so a draw for them now gets them to 210 points and they now must win to edge ahead of us before the last game. Hants 311 for 7 still 77 behind.

More worryingly Notts have now lost a fourth wicket and are 172 for 4 still needing another 252 to avoid the follow on and I think they must do that to keep us in the hunt.
 
Need to give themselves 3 sessions to bowl Hants out I reckon. The could lose the edge quickly if they aim to blast it around in two sessions today.
 
The Lancs game is interesting as with a small lead what do Lancs do? Do they set a realistic target and go for the win, which means they risk losing, or do they set a big target and leave themselves a far shorter period to bowl Hampshire out.

if hampshire dont win they are down which means next weeks game against warwickshire will be a walkover

Incidentally i actually believe durham have been the best side over the course of the season

I'm not at a computer so don't know the points, etc but do Hampshire need a win? What I'm thinking is they may need to go for the win themselves. Or could they take a draw and still be able to save themselves next week?
 
Would Notts following on be a bad thing? Lets say they lose their 10th wicket with say 45 minutes of today left. Thats less than 3 and a half sessions for Warks to try and bowl them out. 3 wickets a session, sounds easy but will be difficult. Barring a Notts collapse this afternoon, that game could quickly meander towards a draw.

Draw still favourite at Liverpool in my eyes.
 
Hampshire need to win as they were 19 points behind third bottom Worcestershire before these matches. If they only collect bonus points and Worcestershire do the same (as looks likely) then even a maximum points haul may not be enough to catch up if Worcestershire get a handful of bonus points again next week. The good news is that they will still have something to play for next week as long as Worcestershire don't win (which is looking highly unlikely as I said).

Notts 5 down immediately after lunch. I am starting to worry about that game now. Warwks are getting into a good position there again.

We've certainly been the class of this field. Just a few off days and a couple of dodgy decisions have cost us badly

Notts AO and Warks will enforce

Now presumably a good time for Turner to score his 1st double ton in 1st class ;-)
 
Damn the clear skies and searing heat of a traditional English early autumn. ;-)

In all probability Warks will need just 9 pts from their last game to stop us taking the title then, which means any defeat or a lowish scoring rain-lashed draw (you can never trust the weather in September) in their last game gives us a mere glimmer of hope.
 
In other news, our Yorkshire friends are as good as relegated. They have to win this game and currently trail by 75 runs and Somerset still have all 12 wickets left. Even a win for Yorkshire would leave Worcestershire just needing 2 bonus points to finish ahead of them.

Didn't Yorkshire challenge for the title for a period last season with more or less the same team as they have now?
