LVCC - Durham v Northants

Marty sitting there dumfounded with the mic still on and a dog barking in the distance

The team has had so many amazing performances over the last few years, another remarkable one here. Where would be if we had won those northants and lanc games.

Two things. Firstly pleases for Rushy as he has been immense this season, especially with no onions and stokes out for long periods, no wood or Harrison, he's really led the attack

Secondly shows how far away the standard of 2nd division cricket is from the first. Don't think it gets mentioned enough in the press, why I'm reluctant to pick anyone based on div 2 scores or wickets for England

In fairness, Northants have been incredibly poor, it's an extreme example. Hants could do alright if they come up I think

Interesting report on cricinfo about Leicestershire loosing another 3 of their young players to other counties. The report stating that they maybe the first county to go to the wall and that one or two may follow.

As far as the table is concerned, we know the Yorkies are champs.

Warwickshire did not play this week and are 18 points ahead of us so to catch them we need to win with max bonus points and restrict them to 5 bonus points (tough ask but doable, basically restrict them to under 300 in their first innings). If we do get the 24 points then neither Notts or Sussex could better our total (assuming the current game they are playing ends in a draw as it looks likely to).

Somerset are the only other side that could then stop us and they will be 1 point ahead of us going into the last match if they can finish Middlesex off in the current match (not certain by the way).

Like I said, one more good win and we could finish second and its not that difficult to see it happening now. How weird would that be?

Not weird given we're one of the big 2 ;)

I was about to go down with the bairn after work, he has just finished school. Clearly not now.

There are 6 counties in the country who have a big enough pool of local talent that if the county is run properly and the young players are developed correctly then the county should remain in the top division. Durham are one of them.
I'm told that Leicestershire are in big trouble ATM and there is a question mark over their future. The CEO and some of the players wont be back next season.

Yeah there is a report on cricinfo by David Hopps who is a journalist who is very pro county cricket and he is saying hey are virtually on their last legs.

Sad but been coming for a while. The club is run far too conservatively (with a small "p") and has contributed little to England etc. for a while now. Seem to lack a direction for the club and are merely happy to survive.

Division 2 really is very poor. Beginning to look like the PL in that if you go down at least 1 of them will come straight back up. The likes of Gloucestershire and Leicestershire really are crap.

There are about six counties who quite simply cannot compete unless they sign 5 or 6 South African/Australian cricketers who have EU passports, or spend a fortune on an overeas pro.
Worcesteshire are a classic example the Pakistani chucker has single handed got them promoted and since he has left they are loosing matches in the 2nd division. If the chucker is not playing next season they will do what Northants have done this season.

Expect a libel summons in the post ;)

I as looking forward to seeing Varun Aarun bowl, he only bowled 6 overs in the frist innings and 1 over in the second. Rushy bowl all though the 1st and all through bar 1 over in the second.

Brilliant from him but Northants were poor.
