LVCC D1 - Durham v Warwickshire

the gordon the gopher comment was poor taste. Some of the players gave it a good go today and with a bit of hope, we'll continue that into the next few days (weather pending).

We're all desperate to see Durham do well which is why I go to the games quite often and use up pretty much all my works leave on the games. Obviously people get frustrated in many different ways, but comments such as the "gordon the gopher" and "fuck off Durham" aren't going to help matters.

That said I think some people (via SMS, giving no name) on that match chat are a bit "happy clappy". For example I said today that Muchall isn't good enough and an average of 10 in 5 innings simply isn't deserving of place in the team (I think it's fair for me to offer an opinion and back it up with why I think that). That is my opinion and an opinion I feel isn't foul, abusive, insulting etc. Someone text in to LMC later in the day and claimed I was making derogatory comments regarding Muchall which I found a totally  thing to say. All about opinions providing they are constructive, which I felt my comments were. Calling any of the players silly names isn't going to help anyone at all, which I will never ever do as they are good lads who have been very good to myself and partner over the last few years.

Just hope we can get some decent batting points and bowling points from this game.

I'm fully aware the players are taking note of the comments and they are very determined to put things right. They need our support which they get plenty of and always will be as we;re all a passionate bunch up here in the north east.

My comments don't extend to Harmison though as that bloke is an absolute disgrace and is bleeding the club dry. I don't like to see him representing Durham ahead of the likes of Claydon, Brathwaite, Rushworth (yes I know he's in for this game) and Thorp.

whats pissed me off is someone pulling me at the ground today about whats being posted on-line just because I sometimes go on. I wasnt overly impressed.

You can call it what you like but calling people "pal" will get you the desired response.

I dont know the lad from Adam. All I can go off what he posts on here. Calling people "pal" will get the desried response. Arrogant twat.

I didn't know 'pal' could be deemed so offensive? I thought it was a term of endearment :-?.

So anyway, I sincerely apologise for calling you pal, however I'm willing to be the bigger man here and I am prepared to discuss my failings in greater detail - apart from the term 'pal' was there anything else wrong with my reply to your initial insult?

aye I got carried away as well so my apologies. See my post above as to why I'm a bit peeved.

Its evident that feelings at the ground are running high and the players frankly look gutted, particularly the younger ones. rocky was totally deflated when I saw him not long after he was out.

Its just not going for them ATM but I havent a clue how they turn the corner.

I can understand you getting pissed off at someone approaching you regarding comments, however surely if you weren't guilty - which you weren't - you could just tell them it was nowt to do with you and that would be that? Who was the approachee, so to speak?

It'd be a great shame if they stopped the public comments on there like but they could always just make it a members only thing - disabling text comments - which tends to be where most of the abuse comes from in an anonymous fashion anyway.

I'll not say who it was. It'll just make things worse. I didnt want to say anything at that time but think about it a bit. I'll have a word with them in quiet next time I see them.

Everyone is very pissed off ATM - players, members and I assume the club in general and its starting to show a bit.

Aye, fair enough marra. I'll take everything you and safcdcc have said on board and I honestly will make a more positive change.

Mainze - a very decent day in the grand scheme of things. One that has hopefully boosted the confidence of the dressing room. I just hope the weather is kind to us and enables us to get stuck into these brummie kernts!

by attacknig brandon youre realy barkin up teh wrong tree like, and the names you have spat at him show just how stupid this argument this is - its wrong to say anything negative or critical about the players, and yet it is ok to be outright rude and insulting to posters?

the most ridiculous thing about this is the fact that it is often much much worse on LMC than it was yesterday, after the lancs game for example when understandably everyone was frustrated, alot worse stuff comes out.

all seems to be over reaction to a few comments, which in all honesty, whilst its not something i would ever say i thought the 'gordon the gopher' comment was fairly innocuous [sp?], im sure muchall has heard worse.

there will always been doomsayers, but really, id like to think if i was a player and i read that it would motivate me to try even harder rather than the opposite.

decent banter on there yesterday, if anyone spoilt it, it was the negativity police, we praise anyone doing well to the hilt, but what can you say when someone is out? bad luck and move along? of course you are goign to be disappointed.

on a side note, its funny how the two being so critical of negativity here and on live match chat are also on another thread here slaying harmison, the captaincy, the bowling attack and the club in general :?:

Hmmm I've been critical of Muchall but wouldn't resort to name calling which is all I'm saying. People have every right to be critical in a constructive manner, I'm one of the worst for it.

As far as I'm concerned, Harmison isn't part of Durham CCC. I've made my feelings well aware on that subject for quite some time. Quite a lot of people (in fact the vast majority), share that opinion also.

As you have pointed out I've been critical of quite a few things this season as what I've seen in the LVCC has on the whole been poor.

Yesterday was a good day though apart from 2 poor batting performances.

I'll never stop been constructive with criticism but when praise is due it will be mentioned.

Very difficult season so far, been some good positives but some negatives which I hope get dealt with sooner rather than later and what I mean by that is I feel as though players like Richardson, Brathwaite, Raine, Wood, Jennings, Claydon and Thorp deserve a chance ahead of some who now appear to be a regular fitting in the 1st XI.

As I've previously said, the players and the club have been excellent to both me and my partner on a personal level.

We'll all keep supporting them, going up to Scotland for the 1 dayer and with a bit of luck Lancs for the 4 dayer.

al of which i agree with, and believe it is your right to air publicly.

i just think colonel was bang out of order to call out brandon with such vitriol but he's apologised so i suppose hopefully that can be the end of it

fingers crossed. I'm all for constructive criticism though, Tim Wellock sometimes is the very best at that

Tim is the best at everything! Fantastic writer, is he ever on that cricket writers show on sky? first time ive ever watched it last week, had viccers on it, not sure if its the same panel every week like?

I read Tim's column religiously. I tend to take my opinions from him too in fairness, if his Lunch/Tea/Close of play report says we're doing ok then I accept this as gospel! Likewise if he says we're struggling.

His book is an excellent read too. I only hope he brings out a new one!

may make for despressing reading right now!

though i would love for some fly on the wall gossip, the whole smith captaincy must be interesting behind the scenes, there must be far far more to it all that what is public
