LVCC D1 - Durham v Warwickshire

Not open for further replies.

Good day for Durham in my opinion.

It looked like very difficult batting conditions early on and elsewhere in the country the other 2 matches were around 25 for 2 or so when we were.

Lads applied themselves well.

some decent patient batting once the first 2 were out. Has to be said how many more chances is Muchall going to get in this team? Prior to this game he had 4 innings and his average was 12.50 scoring 50 runs in those 4 innings. His average is now down to 10 after today's shambolic effort where the struggled and you could predict he was going to be out very soon.

Smith batted sensible, deserved his 50 but still a good contribution. Stokes batted well and it's good to see some form from him. Benks will be annoyed with this dismissal but a welcomed 40 runs. Collingwood starting to show all his experience and hopefully he can push on when play resumes.

Decent day for Durham, some good solid batting today once the first 2 went. Here's hoping we can get to 300.

Agree with most of that.

On the subject of Gordon Muchall i thought that one of the comments posted on that live match chat forum about him was well out of order.

a few people at the ground are talking about that forum and not in glowing terms. time it was maybe pulled by the club.

Were they libellous or something? I know you are generally into the whole free debate thing so I'm surprised at the comment.

As an aside me and my dad went down and wandered through the members' door at lunch not knowing it was members only. The bloke pulled us for not having passes but let us up for a free trial anyway. I'm not sure if that would annoy members who paid but I was impressed as it was something that wouldn't happen at football. Do most people drink in there or Austins?

Can see them blocking fans posting on that match chat thing.

Seems as though you cant have an opinion on it either. Bit like pure football...

The comment wasn't libellous, it was just a bit uncalled for.

I very much doubt it would annoy members as long as you're well behaved.

We tend to get in Austins after a Sunday game.

It's usually those who text in and don't put their name on the text, a bit like today when people were saying Muchall is poor, and someone text in and said people were been insulting and derogratry about him, when purely pointing out he's scored 50 runs in 5 innings, which isn't good enough.

I am all for free speech but some of it was quite insulting and I got pulled about it today at the ground by someone; I'll not say who. I'm not on all that often, wasnt today but the person who challenged me knows that I get to the games and also get online sometimes.

Its now being talked about, as I say, in none too glowing terms at the minute and its evident that the players are looking at it as are club officials. Its an accident waiting to happen.

We all get frustrated, none more so than me and we all say things that we ultimately regret but I just get the feeling that there is a tipping point being reached.

the players look very down about things ATM, not surprisingly, and I saw one not long after he was out today; he couldnt even look me in the face, he was that gutted. I felt really sorry for him and there is no one more hurt or trying harder than the players.

It struck me that the stick they are getting is now totally counter productive.

As for the members lounge its a really good facility and I'm pleased they let you in. I rarely drink in the Members lounge, because you cant use your switch card in there, although the prices are cheaper in there than Austins, but if you are going to go down for a beer or two let me know and I'll have a drink with you. I'm happy to stay after the match as well for a bit.

I think we both agreed that the lad stepped over the line in what he said though. youre right that people will criticise when things go pear shaped, thats par for the course but one or two comments (we know the one in particular i am talking about) were just out of order.

Firstly, what was the comment? And Secondly, I hope the players are upset about the comments. If they got their f***ing fingers out and scored some runs/won some games then there wouldn't be so many negative comments would there. It's called freedom of speech and it's something that still is in place in this country (only just). Or do the players and management just expect everyone to be happy that we're bottom of the league?

If you are Brandonia then you are one of the worst offenders. Some of your comments are ridiculous. You never have anything positive to say about the team.

how would you like it if you fucked up and everyone posted telling you what a tit you are? you wouldnt like it either.

No one expects people to be happy, no one is, but the comments are now going to far.

for someone to post that "we'd be better off having gordon the Gofer rather than Gordon Muchall" was out of order. The lad reads that shite man as does the team, families and other members.

As far as I'm aware they have it on the PC in the dressing room.

I dont talk to many members who have a good word to say about LMC either. Most think it a load of shite and that the comments are childish. I'm surprised that like The Forum it hasnt been pulled.

the problem is that cricket isnt like football. DCCC only has that one forum and anything that is said on it is read by everyone.

Freedom of speech extends to everyone and I'm saying LMC should be pulled because it serves no useful purpose now. The comments have gone too far.

Someone last week during our 1st innings vs Lancs text in "fuck off Durham" - thankfully it was pulled within a few minutes.

I've never posted on the official site, as I didn't on that SAFC live chat thing. It just doesn't sit right with me. It's good that the clubs can judge customers opinions but it's always going to be a liability. I wish they'd get that 'Down by the Riverside' back up and running.

I'm going slightly over the top about it but its now obvious that the LMC facility isnt helping anyone presently.

Cant say that I was overly impressed at being pulled about it myself at the ground but I was. I think that the players are looking for some support to get them out of this hole and whilst we can all blab on about freedom of speech all day a step back might be in order.

Everyone is obviously very f***ing hacked off and the frustration is now starting to show. I'm pleased that the first half of the CC season is nearly over.

I'd agree with you. The members on DBTR were a bit older and had been there, seen it and done it with Durham, hence comments were a bit more tempered. there is another forum that started off but i'm not sure that its still running. It had all the same members as DBTR but it wasnt "live".

Interesting that claydon has now been aded to an original 12 man squad. My bet is that Thorp will once more be dropped. We'll see.
.

following on from this. thorp was in the original team selection yesterday then the club said claydon was also drafted in. claydon was 12th man today and Thorp was out the back in the nets.

Never have anything positive to say? I think you'd better look back over today's Chat then. Because you'll find that 90% of what I post is positive. I call it as it is pal. If they're playing badly why should we pretend everything is fine? That's what following a team is all about pal. As I say though, they're bottom of the league but I'm still following them. It's just frustrating when you can see something crumbling in front of your eyes, yet the club keep making the same mistakes and playing the same people. Certain pundits made similar comments today about the form of certain players and they've been watching cricket longer than me.

As for how would I feel if I was f***ing up all the time - i'd be gutted, but I'd also expect the criticism. It's happened to me before in competitive sport, albeit not as high a level but I still expected criticism and I still got it. The way to respond to it is to be even more determined to succeed. If you can't take criticism in life then you might aswell not bother.

Or should we all just toe the party line and go on there tomorrow and say how great we are doing and how well those happy chappies are playing when we're all out for 280 and Warwickshire are 250-2?

Oh and finally, anyone who takes anything serious that happens on an Internet forum is possibly taking life too seriously too.

I'm not sure why Thorp isnt playing. As we both saw early doors there was some atmospherics about and if we had been bowling Thorp is just the man to get something out of it.

Things obviously arent right at the minute and loads of issues are being talked about between people.

 Is that a bite?

Seriously though, is that all you can come up with following my reply? Do you agree with the rest of it or not? I was honestly up for a serious debate about the situation. Fuck sake mate (or does that offend you too) calm yourself a bit.

There's worse than me on there too btw. However in honesty, I genuinely believe the worst ones are the divs who come out with shite like "Oh let's not worry, I'm sure the lads gave it their best shot" after a 300 run defeat.......

Mate, I know this lad well there is not a more balanced opinion than his.

No need for name calling really

You can call it what you like but calling people "pal" will get you the desired response.
