LVCC D1 - Durham v Surrey

Despite the weather, that's a great day's play for us. Weather set fair tomorrow apparently and we need 7 wickets to win when I thought we may need 14.

I would have taken 7 wickets had we played a full day.

I was down from about 12.30pm until they went off around 2.30pm. Amla looked to be in good nick, played some great shots, but they are clearly up against it now. Weather forecast for tomorrow is good and if the usual clump of wickets falls in the first 75 minutes then Surrey may well be beaten soon after lunch. Famous last words like! the bowling has been superb so far and I've been surprised by Arshad who at one point was on a hat trick today.

7 wickets in 22.4 overs. Excellent that. Slightly worried Alma might fuck it up for us though .

Its natural to be nervous as a Durham fan, but from this position, weather permitting, we win 99 times out of 100.

Lets just get these last 7 wickets and head off down to Scarborough and spoil the party. The entire media had us written off before the season started and they also crowned the Yorkies champions in June. It would be very satisfying to rain on their parade.[DOUBLEPOST=1377378458][/DOUBLEPOST]

The bowling is almost always superb from Durham at home. The great thing about this match though is that its been done without Thorpe and Onions not forgetting Stokes.

That's very encouraging for the future as we all know the club has a few issues money wise and if we are to continue to be a competitive first division side like we have been for the last 5 years, we will need to bring the youngsters through.

Surrey now 156 for 6. 3 of the 7 wickets gone before lunch including the big danger man.

Edit - For the second time in this game we have taken a wicket as I post. 156 for 7 Wood on a hat trick first ball after lunch.

Another great session for us.

Rushy has bowled well this morning beating the bat on numerous occasions without luck, until he bowled the worst ball in the match, short and wide and had Amla caught brilliantly by Mustard. Sometimes you just need a little bit of luck once in a while to help win a game of cricket.

A few tricky selection issues for Scarborough![DOUBLEPOST=1377433050][/DOUBLEPOST]A look back to april

Brill stuff.

Scarborough likely to turn? Could see Breese or Stokes in for Arshad (dont worry he will get plenty more chances next season with Thorp & Harmison departing).

Just play our best team available

Scarborough always rather like a test match pitch I think

A Hell of a lot because it's going to get at least a £100k off the salary bill.

I repeat, what impact is that going to have anyone who is in the first team? If the young lad is getting a game ahead of Harmison now why would his chances improve? If anything it might free up cash for a more experienced player who'd push him out of the picture.

Obviously it's good for the club when he disappears from the wage bill.

What impact is Harmison leaving going to have on anyone in the first team??

The theory being if (all relative) Harmison was fit he would have probably played a few games here & there this year as at times, we have struggled esp in limited overs cricket.

Because it frees up cash to give youngsters in the squad who are on development contracts to be awarded full contracts and enables established players like Ben and Scott to be given improved contracts.
