LVCC D1 - Durham v Surrey

Surrey captain needs sacking for opting to bat first.

Seaming wicket against a side that's only managed 9 batting points all season. Surely it's a no brainer that you bowl first.

37-2. Jennings on 12, Stokes on 0. This is according to the ECB app though, which has been all over the place with scores since the last update.

Feeling a lot better about our chances of staying up now. Trailing by 10 with 6 wickets remaining at Close Of Play on Day One is a great position to be in. Hopefully push on with these two getting in the runs, and give us a lead off 200+ then the pressure is all on them.

I'd love a lead of 200+ but I can't see it! Cracking effort from Benk and Colly in the last hour, currently a partnership of 61 (I think), which is massive in the context of this game.

It seemed tough going though and listening to the commentary was awful at times, dot after dot and then a edge through the slips, balls keeping low all the time, nipping off the seam and then lifting off a length - it certainly sounded like hard work for the batsmen - all of which leads me to think that a lead of 100 would be immense, meaning we'd also secured a batting bonus point.

In fairness its all too much to wonder about and having seen many a collapse this season from our batsmen I'm not going to make any assumptions about how many runs we do get. We just have to go out there tomorrow, try and be positive and try to build partnerships. Meaker not playing for them is a good thing for us, it would be great if we could bat well into tomorrow and dare I say it even see the new ball come about!

One thing is for sure though, I think this is the best I've felt upon Close of play all season!

Weather is meant to be alright too like, possible chance of an afternoon shower.

To be fair, we surely don't need a lead of 200. Hardly anybody has scored big runs at the riverside this season and we still have our second innings to make up any deficit. 100-150 first innings lead on this wicket should be enough.

Absolutely must win match though and that has been a good first day.

200 lead?

We can dream

I'll settle for 1st innings lead ;-)

Pitch inspector said "Bowlers exploited seamer friendly conditions" so no problems there. Not that I thought there would be. I'd love Old Timer to be right but my gut feeling suggests me to think more along the lines of Icare!

Chris Adams reckons the 1st and 4th innings have been most difficult at Riverside this year - which was why they chose to bat first - he's right of course, to a degree. So I'm hoping we can get enough first time around to only need a handful of runs in the chase.

Or an innings win would be canny :lol:
