gutted for stokes, he was going to miss this game anyway but now cannot play for the lions due to back complaint.
not promising for the lad, only what 20 and has already missed large chunks with back problems, the finger dislocation sounds painful anarl, they had to chip out some bone from his hand to wedge into his finger socket to try and sort it out
desperately need a win aye, can't be long before new batsmen get drafted in at this rate, stoneman, richardson, raine etc etc
MJ Di Venuto (23)
WR Smith (2)
PD Collingwood (5)
MD Stoneman (26)
DM Benkenstein (44)

CD Thorp (36)
G Onions (9)
SG Borthwick (16)
ME Claydon (25)
RMR Brathwaite (8)
I'd leave out Muchall cause he's shit and Thorp because I reckon they should give Brath a chance and Thorp hasn't done much this season in seam friendly conditions.........
As for the visitors, they have had some 'Durham-esque' injuries, according to their website they're down to their last 11 fit senior players, with Philander selected despite supposedly carrying an injury too. Jos Buttler split the webbing of his finger whilst training today, which all adds to our chances you'd feel..... So no doubt their rezzies will put on 400 and skittle us cheap
We've really struggled to score runs so far this season so playing the extra batsman, whilst slightly smacking of desparation, should help. It still leaves us with 6 bowling options which should be enough.
We don't really need 2 spinners at this stage of the season and Borthwick has been used very sparingly so far but will get his chance later in the season.
I've re-jigged the batting order as playing Colly at no. 3 is not really working and Benks appears to be more confident batting higher up the order.
I suspect Muchall will miss out though and Borthwick will play.

though i can see us trying to fit muchall in as our batting has been so poor. blacky is hardly batting like a number 6 at this point, more like a 12.. tbf all our side have, does claydon have our highest score of the season so far?
Agree with the poster who suggests Borthwick to open the batting.
If he is to make a success of things at Durham he will go a lot of 1st innings' in particular without a bowl, and in April/May he may barely bowl at all. Crucial his batting contributes as other wise his selection is a waste of a place.
I also feel he has the potential to be a far better batsman than either Smith or Stoneman.
Does make me wonder though if he will need to move South at some point to find some more non-seamer friendly wickets.
Worryingly we havent looked like making a score all season. From the little I have seen (so correct me if I am wrong) our batsmen seem incapable of actually gutsing out an old fashioned stonewaller of a 70 odd. Yes I know in the modern game you have to score a bit quicker and generally on good pitches you can, but in April/May on wet seamers at Chester-le-Street they need to learn to leave the ball, and be brave and wear a few.
I saw a little bit a week or so back at the Riverside and they are fishing outside off getting caught at slip, chipping weak drives to fielders in the ring etc.
Time to grow some lads and start getting stuck in a bit!
f***ing shite this. When the fuck is Cook going to realise that Smith and Muchall are NOT Division 1 class. AS for the others, I will let DiVa off with bad form, Collingwood is finished - or just not f***ing trying. Then you have Blackwell who doesn't seem to care these days either.
