Nah, looks like Denly is holding one end up.They can't can they ?
Fucked about too much this morning.
So you would agree that somewhere less than 100 overs (101 actually) should have been considered adequate then, while having the dual benefit of requiring more than just a ticking over run rate from them?We had over 100 overs to bowl at them. If you can't bowl a side out in fourth innings in that many overs you don't deserve to win.
No, a team set 410 to win might score 375 and lose, but that would not count as biggest total to win would it? In which case 336 might not seem such a difficult target. Don't you remember Lancashire nearly chasing down about 480 on the last day at the Oval couple of years back? The short history of the Riverside is a red herring. We'll know next time.Incidentally, do you know what the highest unsuccessful run chase is at the Riverside?
Less than the target Colly set against Yorkshire obviously.I'm afraid the logic that it was obvious it was a very gettable target is beyond me. If it has never been attained before I can't understand how it can be obvious.
TwasOnTheFifthOfMay;o said:I remember Durham chasing and getting a total circa 350 at Taunton some years back with Breese getting 160 + and Lancs may well have got 400+ at the Oval, last day of the season I seem to recall but these are isolated cases-it's the very gettable term that I find confusing. Fact is we've totally outplayed Middlesex and outplayed Yorks for 3 out of 4 days but got nothing much to show for it. I don't blame Colly in setting either target.
That's about right.I felt the declaration was ok. Set them 300 in 50 overs, either side could have done it but in the end they shut up shop and the pitch didn't offer a great deal for the bowlers.
The weather was the winner in this game.
