That Maggofin for Sussex has 320 odd first class wickets at 24 and a batting average a shade under 20, surprised never had a look in for Australia since 2008

let off Jennings dropped off a dolly in the slips

He's been nigh on deadly in English conditions over the last year and a bit aswell.

One wicket before lunch on day 1 in the freezing cold suggests to me this pitch has suddenly gone as flat as the front of Keira Knightly

Hopefully it's mainly because middx are bowling garbage

Have we ever hit 100 before lunch at the river?

ooof looks like we just missed out

ah no another over

Very pleased with that start, lets knuckle down after lunch and carry on in the same vein. Excellent opportunity now to take the game away from Middlesex even this early into proceedings.

One would like to think their fabled opening batters must be due a failure at some point and be good to see what numbers 5,6 and 7 do under a bit of pressure

We have a long batting order, chill out.

Perhaps, but all rather average on the face of it. Doesn't matter how long the batting order is. We lost 4 for 41 during a time when the ball should be old enough that it isn't doing a lot. What's more, Smith is 12 from 57 balls or summit. What's that all about? The lads made hay in the morning session scoring just under 4 an over, what's that tell you?

Smith protecting his wicket in a difficult session?

You and I both know it matters not what the conditions are, he's always batted slowly. I may be being too harsh on the bloke, but it just seems like he goes into a defensive shell, lasts a good number of balls (say 80) but his strike rate is so poor he only makes a gritty 20 or so......
