in todays odi, colly, yardy and trott bowled 20 overs and took 3 for 80 runs

now presuming broad, swann and bresnan, will come back in, if fit, where exactly is there a role for wright to perform?

imo, tremlett should be in the squad in front of wright.

this game has shown, we have some canny dibbly dobbly, middle overs, style bowlers, who are obviously trusted by strauss, instead we waste a squad place, with wright, who never bowls a full quota or in 99% of his batting efforts fails

the stats prove this, watching this series with my own eyes shows this, so what on earth is he doing in the squad?

he has shown nothing in the last 2 years imo

if Trott, Bell, Pietersen and Collingwood can effectivley bowl 15 overs we can have the 7 batsman and then have Anderson, Broad, Swann and Yardy as our bowlers but I guess we won't know our tatics until we see what pitches are on offer.

I agree there doesn't seem to be a place for Wright. He made his name at the top of the order, hitting over the top during the field restrictions, yet like so many 'young English talents' over the years, appears to have lost the fundamental ability to play cricket after exclusively being within the England set up for ther last couple of years.

But I have to worry, if England expect to go to the sub-continent and expect to get 20 overs from Colly, Trott and Yardy then they're in trouble. These pitches will be flat and dry. India have about 9 bowlers, almost all of which are better suited to conditions than Colly and Trott, yet may only get 2 or 3 overs each during a game.

i agree. todays, according to the commentators, was a sub continent style pitch.

taking the pace off will come into the game in the world cup, plus mixed in with slow ball bouncers, pace bouncers, yorkers etc

i know i keep saying this, but would could wright bring to the game?

he never bowls a full spell and his batting in all positions is not odi class.

if we need someone who can hit the ball and score a quick 20-30 runs with pace on the ball then he's the man simple really. He did ok in his last ODI batted well and should have had Haddin out in his first over but Tremlett dropped him.

Replace Wright with either a bowler or a batsman, at present he performs neither, I agree 100%. Give him a full season at Sussex to shine. If he can improve and show some decent form, use him properly, if he doesn't leave him out, but batting him low down the order and refusing to bowl him makes a nonsense of his selection.

those quick runs were scored today by yardy.

broad, swann or bresnan are equally capable of scoring a quick 30 odd.

when was the last time, wright contributed to an england win, either by seeing out a match to win, setting up a match to win, taking a few wickets to win, a run out or a catch?

he is the only one in the squad imo, that has not shown any of that, in the last two years

I think that given most of the sub-continent pitches will be pretty slow and low, it could be a risk worth taking trying to get 10-15 overs from Collingwood, Trott and even Pietersen. I don't think the pitches will suit an 80mph bang it in bowler like Wright and he'll be batting 7 or 8 and no higher so it could be worth either playing an extra batsmen and trying to get the 3 mentioned above to fill the overs in, or to play an extra bowler and rely on Yardy, Bresnan and Swann to be the lower middle order.
