Luke O'Nien

Means nowt though in reality. They might not extend his contract next summer and then he won't have a choice.
If they don't extend his contract, he'll be offered something at the AOL.

Its pretty much discussed in that Rosemary video. Its always been the plan for him that's why Sunderand AFC have invested in his Inner Game programme.

Retiring at 32 then? I doubt it.

Can't see him having many takers at 31 tbh.

He's pretty much nailed on a coaching role here, so I wouldn't risk that for a season in the bottom half of the Championship if I were him.

Was just gonna mention the IGA.

Sunderland have let him use all their resources on it.

I hope so. The way the current owner goes on, I would never think that anyone over there is truly safe in Thier job

This think he could go play somewhere for a year or two and come back . He would be a great examples for the youth players to be around . Released dropped down the leagues and through hard work made it all the way to the top . Love luke me

I would like Luke to become Player Manager at my second team after Lee Clark crashes and burns.... ..It may not bring the Mighty Monkey Hangers any success but would certainly be Fun...😋

He's got to much to offer as a player to see his career out on the bench for us. Go and play regularly and then come back and get the lad coaching
Yeah i agree with this. Still had loads to offer most clubs in the championship. Would be a great player there. Has looked after himself so should have 3 or 4 decent years left. Then once his career is done im sure he'd be a great person to have working as a coach for us.

I think he'd be happy selling match day programmes, if it meant he could remain employed by SAFC.

His game time will be increasingly limited, but he still has a lot to offer, in other capacities within the club.
This is it, I don't think people realise he is just happy to be at the club. I'm sure he would love to play more but he only wants to play for us so is happy to take what he gets when he can then make up for lack of game time in other ways through stuff like the Inner Game Acedemy.

Its easy to forget he is still Club Captain.

He's a serviceable 4th or 5th choice centre back who can cover other positions, on a relatively low wage and is happy just to be around. No reason for the club to move him on, especially if we're looking to qualify for Europe in the next year or two. In an ideal world we'd have a squad full of top quality players but we will need depth - he's made 13 appearances despite not playing til December - and any upgrade would cost a hell of a lot more than him and wouldn't accept only playing occasionally.
