lower league football kicking off this weekend

fingers crossed - I'm still a bit disappointed that Ross couldn't find someone to do a job for in the lower leagues of the England leagues. I think he would have made it somewhere

Ross Allen?

To be fair you see lots of players at that level who you think could/should play at a higher level. But then you see someone from a higher level (like Jordan Macquire-Drew who we had on loan from Brighton) and you realise how much of a step up it is.

Where are the Gas moving to?

Lot of years since their fans used to stand by the motorway and watch for nowt at Eastville

Only went to Eastville once.
More concerned with that gas canister going off.......
Not sure where the new ground is other than they have an investor now.

John Goddard.
Might just turn into the next Harry Arter you never know.
Arter was playing in the sixth tier with Woking in 2010 & only five years later personally the top flite & international football

Or he could end up back in the Conference & his natural level on loan to someone within six months ;)

Settling in well all hopes on him ...... Simply not prepared this season.

How do teams like Swindon compete for players on loan from the PL clubs? A rising star would make a huge difference presumably.

Does money play a loan in these arrangements? Or does it boil down to who knows who among the managers?

All down to our Chairman and the links he has with PL clubs.
One bright spot is that clubs like loaning out to us as we try and play football and they get regular first team starts.
We rely heavily on loans but this year due to the Euro's there is a delay in clubs releasing players. We are after a forward from Palace but he is coming back from injury and they don't want to risk him until a few more weeks.
Then other clubs may come in.
Squad is very small as it is.

This, especially when I see loaned players on the bench elsewhere. Good luck, hope you get some lucky loans.

Aye you're probably right - when I was 21 and in the RN we played against Preston youth and they beat us 16-0 !! Having said that the teacher training college beat us 8-0 - by fuck THEY were keen! We were shite like! :) I think the only teams we could beat were Kirkham Prison and Lancaster Uni! Great times though - we always won the piss up

Be taking the trip across to lovely Wiltshire to see my newly adopted Salisbury take on Evesham United after securing promotion last season.

Was there last Saturday, was abandoned because one of your players looked to have broke their leg in the process of scoring.
Used to love going to watch Salisbury City play, especially under the floodlights midweek. A lifetime ago unfortunately, simpler, happier times.

Only seen them a few times myself since the newly reformed club but it's a really friendly club, always get decent crowds. Would never of thought they went bust.

You should've said mate, we could have had a pint!

Aye, Ben Pope (one of our promising youngsters) broke and dislocated his ankle. He's expected to be out for the season.

Ah, was a last minute decision to go Tbf!

Ouch, poor lad looked gutted and really struggling on the ground and given I was on crutches after suffering a fractured foot recently I knew his pain.

Hopefully he'll do the business for you.
Always good to see a young lad released from a big club (well ... Reading ) drop down to the non league & progress from there & get their own second chance.
At only 23 he's still got his peak years well ahead of him too.
Box to box type midfielder, & current Woking fans player of the season iirc so he was well thought of.

Good luck to the lad.

How times have changed.
Some serious investment at Trashton Gate, debts mounting year on year but being propped up by a Club supporting chairman.
I will be dead before we either move or the ground is developed.
Even the Gas are getting a new stadium.

Ha'way the 'Pool.

the other 'Heeds

Championship is madness this season. If you shop around you can get 10's or under on 21 of the 24 sides for promotion. Has there ever been a league less predictable?

My team Worthing kick-off next Saturday. Cant bloody wait for the season to get going. I love non-league footy.

What are your realistic expectations for the season ahead???

From what I gather Woking fans will be 'happy' with 20th due to the playing budget cuts & losing some of their better players as a direct result.

Who knows - 12 months time Worthing vs Woking could be an upcoming Conference South fixture ;)

I think we'll stay up. We score goals and don't conceded many and that's a good mix! The new additions (esp Sam Rents and Kane Wills) have improved the starting eleven and given us valuable experience at a higher level.

Pre-season has been encouraging, drew with Whitehawk, only lost 2-1 to a strong Crawley side and beat Watford U21's 2-0 (although match was abandoned after about 65 mins). Not to mention stuffing lower league opposition 10-1!

I think, like a lot of clubs, our start is going to be very important. We're a young side with a 25 year old manager so confidence of playing at this higher level is key. So I reckon we've got enough to stop up, how far up we finish.....I'm not too sure, but very quietly confident!

Well fuck me if that's the quality of lower league football then kill me now

Horrific it cetainly was, world class rafa out thought out classed by a Fulham manager nee fucker has heard of

"He's still one of the highest paid managers in Europe" said the commentary team

They're throwing the cheque book about in a desperate attempt to go up.

Benitez seems to fire them up for home games but they are piss poor with little spirit away from home
