Love Cricket, Hate the 16.4

I just don’t think us Brits buy into franchise shite the way fans in other countries do. Especially not with the mass Indian involvement now, because for most of us it means more to us to have a connection to locality or some sort of historical significance than anything foisted upon us by the Indian tech-bro shithouses.

What does an elephant have to do with Manchester? That’s of course before the ridiculous city based promotion which alienates the majority of Lancastrians.

The sooner this competition implodes, the better for the sake of the sport in this country and I’m not just talking county cricket.

Moreover, the Indian influence upon world cricket is bad news.
In America, franchises rely on colleges to grow and develop talent. That is the model. For cricket and football in England, as examples, the clubs build the talent. Without the counties, there is no upcoming talent and there is no England team or English players to feed the Hundred.

For me, the whole strength of English cricket is the history and the tradition. I just don't get franchise sport.
Cheapest ticket at The Oval is £45 this year

I swear it was about £20 when it first started.
Yeah I noticed that. Prices have gone up massively

I haven't seen much publicity about the 16.4 this year.

Maybe the ECB dont care now and Sky will probably soon lose the rights, so I guess why bother?

The replies to this embarrassing attempt at publicity warms the heart no end:

The next thing will be the owners taking their players out of the County game for good. Year long contracts to do the various franchise circuits.

Its obvious the 16.4 will also turn into another T20.

This is why I never really got the obsession with the fact it didn’t have six ball overs inherent in the daft nickname. Because when it goes back to 6 ball overs, as it very soon will, almost everything that is wrong about it will still be wrong about it. It was totally the wrong thing to focus on.
