Look North/Tyne Tees Coverage ***Europa League Special***

Reet....
Stuck this in. The twats.

Disgusting to see Dawn Thewlis and Luke Edwards gloss over the racial abuse received by Sunderland player Lutsharel Geertruida in the Tyne-Wear derby on Sunday, going so far as to liken it to a poor piece of goal keeping.
This was a shameful incident in the game, and has no place in football or society, yet these two clowns made light of it as though it just part and parcel of the match. This is an absolute disgrace, the pair have shown zero journalistic integrity, and should be deeply ashamed of themselves, and the BBC should be holding them to account.

Absolutely this. If people get off their arses and do something it MAY actually see things change. An email takes 5mins.

I've said for years that they, both NP & BBC/ITV get away with it because they aren't challenged enough.

Edwards turning the racism incident into an attempt at banter is nauseating.

Time constraints...editorial descision...try to give a round up across the region...which is the bigger story...no bias.

Standard response. We need to bombard them with complaints so that the high ups in Salford start to pay attention.

Currently we in a situation where we have mags in senior positions at the Pink Palace on Barracks Road policing the content put out by other mags in editorial positions.

All of whom are of the Entertainers generation, fully indoctrinated in Jawdee Nashun mythology.
Done 👍

A pathetic response.

I presume he would be writing his own links so this makes it even worse. Surely he would not be ad-libbing on a programme with a tight timeframe and needs to time stuff to the second?

Racism isn’t ’regrettable’. It’s a criminal offence that carries a possible fine or prison sentence.

Hardly his first apology around these games is it

I don't really think racism is something to make light of/jokes about cos I've disliked it all me life man

The BBC are the ones who should be apologising. It's their editorial policy and content that was the real problem
Appalling standard to set by the national broadcaster

If Thewlis does in any way set the content and tone then a sacking would be appropriate
He's a bellend, and a comically unprofessional journalist at times, and his phrasing was horrendous.

I do think he was set up to fail mind, by Look North trying to shoe horn the racism into a very brief overview of the game.

The racism part should have been a separate story (more of a lead) and then left the match coverage to Edwards or whoever else.

He was poor but he was set up by terrible editorial decisions by BBC.

Deliberately made by the senior sports editor...iirc one D.Thewlis

The coverage of the game was brief to say the least
Considering that this was the first derby at st James for years
They give more build up and coverage to a non event champions league game and the league cup final reporting went on for days

Do they run credits at the end of the programme to show who editors are?

As I said in the other thread on this matter Dawn Thewlis showed her hand when she finished the coverage with a sigh and remarking that "we need the international break"
I’ve been very critical of the coverage, but she didn’t quite say that.

It was “perhaps a good time for an international break I think” on the back of the interview with a dejected Beheadie.

There was no “we”
