In an article today that sums up West Ham's dire season it said of the Hammers;
"A spell of three wins in four matches against fellow strugglers

Following our (away) loss to West Ham in January West Hams'
"fellow strugglers" Sunderland in fact remained 8 places above the Hammers and were in 10th position and held a lead of 13 points over them.
During the entire season the closest the Lads have got to a relegation spot was when they fell to 13th place on 14th March but even then two weeks earlier they had become theoretically "safe" on 40 points.
Suffice to say the Lads have never been "relegation strugglers" at any stage during the season
