Loan watch

How is he thought of at the club? Good enough to play first team in a couple of years, perhaps if Patterson moves on?
Very highly here. Signed a pro on his 17th amongst interest from the top 6. Played 18s last season whilst at school throughout and 21s this season. I would expect that timeframe in fairness. Always played up and this is his first steps into senior football. A loan next season would be ideal perhaps league 2 or national?

Great to hear. Thank you for the insights. Hopefully he continues to do well at Darlington, perhaps gets a loan higher up the leagues next season (like Pickford and Patterson did to great developmental success) and then claims the hallowed jersey for himself in the longer term

Joe Anderson an unused sub for Shrewsbury in a 3-0 away defeat at Lincoln.

Matty young with Darlington in a 1-3 away win at Curzon Ashton. Big turnaround at Darlo.

Any idea what Matty Young is like as a keeper compared to Patterson ? Everyone has different playing styles, what style suits Sunderland more ?

From what I've seen great with his feet, distribution is also good, Darlington fans seem very happy on twitter. He's vocal and organises he has a good presence. Shot stopping also good.
He can mix it up, from playing from the back to putting his foot through it. Doesn't play like a kid recently turned 17. Loan move here is excellent for him especially something to play for.

Reckon we'll see him in the first team picture season after next ? I'd like to say next season but feel a season long loan mode beckons.

Without trying to criticise Patterson, it seems Young has far more potential than Patterson did in his younger years. We've got a good un on our hands it seems.

This Darlington move has shades of Pickford about it, it's where he got going if I'm remembering correctly.

I'd say season after next is a good benchmark unless out lot think they should throw him in, I wouldn't. Keepers are different.
Others on here will have a good opinion on him too. Patta hasn't changed much from what I remember of him u16 onwards, he's been solid and never a vocal keeper.
Yeah his loan does have shades of Pickford, some Darlo fans have used that comparison.

Was at Curzon Ashton last as I live local. Thought Matty Young was hugely impressive! Presence, awareness and confidence! The lad has a huge future!
Comments on twitter were very positive. Good update 👍🏻

Just on last night what level do you think would be good for his next loan? Beyond years is something said quite often with Darlington fans.

He's ready for a higher level. Curzon is a small ground so you could hear his leadership clearly! Totally dominated his box and has a remarkable reach turning shots around the post that he had no right to get to. Not intimidated by big ugly strikers having a pop! Funny how Darlo have improved since he signed. A lower EFL club would be great for a season. But we have got to keep him! He'll be the business in time! Ta

Excellent to hear! Hopefully stays there to see the season out and great for his profile to get a good club next season. Very promising report. 👍🏻
With three 21s games in 3 months , come Friday. I'm surprised more haven't went out on loan. Lads will be getting stale just training.
Both Nectar and meyenda are on the bench tonight.
Nectar came on for the last 10 minutes and no feature again for meyenda in a 1-1 draw in the Edinburgh derby.

Matty young won all games since he joined darlo they might stay up now

I know a lad who supports them says he looks very good

Played 5 won 4 I think. They lost at Boston but by all accounts they should have beat them. Very positive online about him which is great.

What a turnaround...given themselves a chance, looked at their fixtures and they've got a tough couple of weeks...ride that out and come out the other side they've might pull off the great escape.
His loan is until Mid March but I'd guess they'll want to keep him till the end of the season.
