Live aid 40 years on

Apparently one of the longest tracks with no singing to get that high in the charts. They were absolutely huge when live aid was on though. Global

The younger generation amongst you don’t realise how big a deal this was at the time, when you walked down the street it was on in literally every tv in every living room in the country

Dunno if you seen the documentary on iplayer player she’s on there 👌
I`m just watching bits and bobs of the BBC coverage tonight. I watched most of it on the TV 40 years ago until I had to go and work my post A-levels bar job for a few hours then came back home and watched the rest of it. My Dad taped the whole Radio1 coverage for me on C90 tapes and videoed BBS`s coverage on VHS tapes. Still got them somewhere I think.

Watch the new three part documentary on iplayer it’s proper interesting. The mechanics of how the politicians got involved etc. I’m also old enough to remember watching it first time around 😂😂 Truely historic event though we didn’t realise at the time

A good watch if anyone hadn’t seen it

Indeed. We forget the good that was done with Geldof and the politicians. Blair and Bush in particular.

Probably not suitable for live aid tho if that’s right or wrong I don’t know. Just fantastic watching bands perform way before technology was in our lives. I was 16 in 85 Seems like yesterday since I watched this. The Smiths are class btw

I was 18 in 85. The Smiths are still my favourite band and were back then. I still regularly walk the streets of SR6 with a Smiths t-shirt on. It was a great day. Out on the lash down the town at midday watching it in the Beehive, kicked out at 3pm so we got some cans and watched in some random lasses flat in Grey Road. Went back up the town at 6pm to watch it in the Blandford then moved around town. Was a good atmosphere.

Think I`ll give it a watch tomorrow.
