Live Aid 39 Years Ago Today

George Harrison and Ringo Starr were asked to appear but declined as they were worried Geldof would try to manipulate some kind of Beatles reunion. Especially as Julian Lennon had signed up to appear. Julian later pulled out of the show for the same reason.

Live Aid was probably the best snd most iconic concert ever. Hard to believe it’s 39 years ago.

There was some good, poor and indifferent performances but this was canny

Queen nailed it. They fully understood what was needed. They were tight and delivered a hell of a show.

The Who were all over unfortunately.

3/4 of U2 thought they had blown it but their two songs (They failed to play Pride) transformed them into a stadium band.

The British gig was better than the USA effort.

Well of course gigs and music is what we do best.

Whatever your views of Queen they stole the show and the performance is the most iconic in rock history.

Does anybody remember much of the American one? That's a cracking line up. Who was the 'queen' moment at that one? I watched it,but cannot remember much about it(11 years old). Funnily enough, I was sure I remember Madonna singing into the groove, but she isn't listed on there. Must've been something else

Madonna played and swore during her set which got her into trouble with the evangelical yanks.

USA show I remember Duran Duran, Simple Minds and Thompson Twins. Also Jagger duetting with Tina Turner and Dylan backed by Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood.

Aye, it's one of the only things I remember ,her set. Wonder if she was a late addition. Sure I remembered CSNY on there as well, but it must've just been Neil Young
