Lining the bus route

I did (still do a bit) think it’ll look silly having a “bus welcome” for finishing 12th or whatever.

However.

I’ve realised that doing it may give us an extra 0.1% chance of European football. I also make myself look silly on here daily. So what does it matter.

I’ll be there, ordered 3 “special effects” off Amazon and will have me cans from the shop.

Or Newcastle even. These are the kind of teams we should be competing with, as long as the club club grows as it should do

But this is not 1926. It’s 2026. You cannot compare the Sunderland AFC of 2026 to the one of 1926. We are not the team of then. Saying we are still the club of 100 years ago is as nonsensical and moronic as the people who laugh at my every word. In case you missed it we spent 4 years in League One. The size of club we are has diminished significantly. That’s why what we’ve done has been so meteoric.

Historical significance is a good barometer of club size otherwise whats the point of recording success.

Its because of that Historical success we have the fanbase we have.

Our ceiling is far higher than Bournemouth and Fulham despite us doing nothing since the 70's.

You cannot just erase history, it shapes the future and is still relevant to here and now.

Maybe Premier League survival in itself is not a big thing, but when you factor in the slow climb up from the depths of League One and everything we were and had to go through and the incredible hard graft that KLD, Regis and the team put in to ensuring this club could get as far away as possible from that existence and in a position where we could never go back, and at the same time put ourselves on a course to grow into something bigger and better and something resembling a Fulham or a Bournemouth is nothing short of superhuman. Hauling yourself up from the depths of despair and lower league football to the Premier League is something that is more valuable than any European cup.

Said a year ago, this type of stuff isn’t really my thing, but went along cos I thought my daughter would enjoy it. Had a class time.

So I’ve decided to sack the pub off & do it again this year. Few cans in the sun, the bairns can sing a few songs & meet up with their mates rather than sit in the pub.

Ha’way the lads.
