Liam Plunkett

Alan’s ill health - he has polycystic kidney disease, a genetic condition that Liam is free of - was clearly a factor in Plunkett’s demise as a fast bowler. In the space of a few years, Plunkett went from being a regular in England squads to someone who could scarcely get a game in Durham 2nd XI, except as a batsman.

Or his drinking

It's a pity he got messed around with, that faffing about with bowler's actions really cost England if only for the impact it had on Plunkett and Anderson. I always wanted him to do well for Durham but it's pleasing to see him turn it around at Yorkshire, been England's best bowler so far this summer. I'm aware of his off the field issues but I don't know how much they were influenced by this story or how much they affected his game but everyone takes time to grow up. Good luck to him.

All I can say is you must be a seriously shit human being to drink drive, get caught & 'punished', Then repeat the process all over again a couple of years later.

been England's best bowler so far this summer.
The summer which is two tests old, the first of which he got 3 wickets for about 200...?

He was still our best bowler, depressing isn't it?
Agreed on the drink driving btw, no excuses for that.

Respect for wanting to help his dad, but in the vast majority of other areas of life, he is a truly average bloke! He has however been our best bowler by a street in this series.

Why you have such a downer in the lad? He's a local kid who's done well for himself.Granted he's made mistakes but nobody perfect.
I take it you will be boycotting the SOL if we sign Alonso!

His Dad and Mam are top people. Was speaking to his Dad when Yorkshire were up here a few weeks ago.

Why you have such a downer in the lad
He is an absolute cretin who was a disgrace to the good name of Durham CCC in his last few years here. Professional sportsman my arse... He was down Durham pissing up & smoking the night before some games. He was a regular drink driver (which is a particually scummy crime) who was eventually caught. This didn't perturb him though after his first slap on the wrist, he proceeded to do exactly the same thing again a year or two later. His averages during this time were pitiful. DCCC finally gave up on him & chased him down to Yorkshire.

Does this sum it up well enough for you?

Steve Bruce has done well for himself after he left Safc - do you love him too?

Bit harsh like, made mistakes, but he was a young lad, and that will happen.

Actually ended up having a few nights out with him around that time, he was a canny lad but certainly not behaving like a sportsman at all. Anyway he sorted himself out and now looks a fantastic bowler.

As said, England missed out here, could of played a lot more. Especially if you look how many caps Bresnan has.

As I said he has made mistakes as I'm sure we all have and he has paid a price for them as watching him bowl at headingley it's criminal he's only managed ten or so tests and he only has himself to blame for that.
Please don't bring my Bruce views onto the cricket forum as I've had enough grief on Pure Football for them.I actually like the bloke!
So as I've said did you show your displeasure at the signing of Alonso then?

Ive never been done for drink driving once let alone twice... Not too sure what skeletons some of you lot have in your cupboard who are giving it "ohhh we all make mistakes, he was a young lad its what young lads do etc".

Im not sure why people are thrashing themselves daft over him. His averages over this two test series are fairly average. Nowt special because his figures in the first test were dire which everyone seems to have forgotten.

He's from boro, this forum spends a lot of time calling that yorkshire.
Boro is north east, which to me is local.

I've never said it's what young lads do I've said it was a mistake and he's paid the penalty for it.
You keep going on about the first test.He was asked to do a specific job on an unresponsive wicket and he did it. He was never going to grab a handful of wickets doing so but that was what he was asked to do.
Obviously Alonso can do what he likes as that doesn't fit in with your obvious agenda.
