To be fair there's a reason why most of our transfers don't work out. We sign players into a relegation model and they never get the chance of an extended run to adapt to the quality of the PL........if they aren't doing it from game one the fans have pigeon holed them as yet another duff signing and they don't have the confidence to play their natural game. I accept that it's difficult though to allow these types of players the time and space to develop but it's pointless signing them if they aren't persevered with,

Some sense there LA.

He is just not PL quality mate. Nicely put mind you and some players, I do agree with you but this response shouldn't be in a Bridcutt thread. He is poor.

Furthermore, you have got the right point though, pointless signing in the first place.

Everton and surprisingly even Spurs have signed players from the same level for a while now and the development period is never an issue. I won't defend Bridcutt other than to say if, for example Norwich or Leicester had signed him I wouldn't be surprised if he'd had a better career than he's had here. There's a mix of issues here which make it difficult for new signings to make their mark.......and at some stage we need to implement a proper development plan for each signing we make.

We need to implement a development plan for the manager and backroom staff first. Hopefully that is happening now. I do get the tone of your point but the players they sign are the best in the league (generally) Bridcutt has never been that. Was simply signed because Poyet worked with him before.

To be fair I saw Bridcutt's name mentioned in a few articles generically titled "Championship players ready to make their mark in the Premier League" or similar. He was quite highly rated and still relatively young. I'm not saying he's PL quality but I'd say we've scuppered any chance of finding out if he was.

Probably have to politely disagree mate. Bridcutt and Buckley were just managerial signings, not because they were ready for PL. of course, respect your point and opinion though. I do agree with some of your earlier statements.

Should finally get a move away from the club today. Leeds the most likely destination. Some signing that was!
He was horrendous playing for the under 21's the other night. Was gettin brushed off the ball like he wasn't even there, even at that level!!

A lot of truth in this. As a club we dismiss players far too quickly and easily, that goes for fans and management. You could argue that we sign many of the wrong players in the first place and that they will never work out. But you look at many of the clubs who we say have overtaken us and some of these players when they arrive are no worse than what they are doing better than us with. They tend to give them the chances to develop a bit longer than we do, as they can't just run out and replace them every window.

Having 2 to 3 managers every year doesn't help like, but realistically when you think of the money and the players we've had and not give games to, who've cost fees/signing on fees/wages would say N'diaye have been any worse if we'd kept him than Cabral, Bridcutt and Rodwell? Danny Graham is absolute shit, but he was no worse than Altidore and it was only a stroke of luck (and high wages) we managed to swap him for Defoe. The Sess/Giacc/Toivonen situation is bordering on farcical too. At centre half we've replaced like for like for like and most haven't been good enough, we've just replaced average for average and it keeps costing us.

What a ridiculous signing that was. The fans could see he was weak as water and offered us nothing. Dick and Sam sussed him and both binned him off after their 1st few training sessions

God knows what was going on in poyets head for sticking with him for so long

Played well on his debut, albeit against a moderate Championship level team, but never kicked on. Was never going to replace Catts and thank God we never sold him to Stoke. Adios Liam.
Gan on, then, remind us who that was!:)

I'd agree with you on the point of how quickly some elements label players a failure for not putting in a world beating debut but Bridcutt actually had a good first match for us. I genuinely think, for whatever reason, the lad was completely overawed with the PL and once Gus left he lost the arm around the shoulder he had previously had and he floated into obscurity.

It 100% didn't work for him here (how many can we say that about) but it would not surprise me in the slightest if he pops up in the PL again playing much better football.
