Tbf we have no idea what crack he might have had to put up with behind the scenes. For example, there are loads of Asian players at Yorkshire CC and in Yorkshire club cricket yet Azeem Rafiq and others still experienced racism. NE club cricket is quite laddish so you can't imagine there being many openly gay cricketers in that.

It was only after moving to the UK and hearing about Graces that Modi felt able to reconcile his identities as a gay man and a cricket lover.

Great stuff.
It can be laddish but any homophobic stuff on the field would be shouted down just as quickly as any racist stuff would. I don’t think there’s be any issues during games.

I can honestly say in the 30 years of local cricket i've never heard any racist or homophobic stuff being directed at opposing players.
