Malaysian-led consortium denial:

Airasia Chief Denies Newcastle Purchase

KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 (Bernama) -- AirAsia chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes has denied that the low-cost airline (LCC) is keen on buying English football club, Newcastle United.

Contacted by Bernama on the matter, Tony Fernandes said: "We are not either directly or indirectly part of the said Malaysian-led consortium intending to purchase Newcastle United. We deny any involvement whatsoever."

A report published today in a Malay daily, Harian Metro, said AirAsia had confirmed that it was in discussions to become the biggest shareholder of Newcastle United.

The daily had quoted an unnamed source within the airline as claiming Tony had an interest to buy a British soccer club.

The British media Friday reported that a Malaysian consortium led by several well-known businessmen had put in a 80m (RM456 million) bid to take control of Newcastle or 'The Magpies' from its owner Mike Ashley but they were bound by non-disclosure agreements.

Brilliant news; I don't think there's going to much time left to save them now. They're going to end up going into this season with no preparations or structure whatsoever, they really have had it.:lol::lol:

Will they fuck. Joe Kinnears coming back man.

I thought the last day of last season was special but I honestly thought they'd get stuck in, sort out the shit and get prepared for the fizzy pop. But bugger me if they're not trying to get relegated again.

FFS its five weeks today that the CC season kicks off and they don't have an owner , manager or any new players. The current squad is unsustainable and yet they have sold no-one and no-one appears to be interested in buying any of them. The truth is that unless they transfer a load of them out soon it will be too late as the Premier clubs that could afford these wages (never mind any fees) will sort themselves out sooner rather than later.

The transfer window closes eight weeks on Monday. Never mind signing anybody, if they haven't sold the vast majority of their first team squad by then, they will be in forced administration before Christmas as nobody will buy the club in that state and the banks will force the issue early in order to minimise the losses.

Looks like being an interesting few weeks although I can't see how they're going to outdo the banana pyjamas effort. I'm sure they'll try though.

Still laughing

Thanks NUFC for making this summer so special.

Rod Liddle in doesn't know whether to laugh or cry for them

"But the trouble is I would like the northeast of England to be a force in football and it certainly ain’t going to be Boro or Sunderland — so, the necessity is to resuscitate Newcastle."

And why not? Niall and the board have met Liddle's objectives as set out in his polemic, let's take it from here......................
