Far be it for me to defend that lot but they weren't invited to the Fairs Cup, they qualified through the League because there was a one club from one city rule which meant teams above them didn't qualify. For instance there could only be one team from London which probably ruled a couple of them out.
The Fairs Cup wasn't run by UEFA but if you look on Wikipedia at the competition of 1968-69 you will see it was the same as the other European competitions. To be fair, if we'd won it we'd be claiming to have won a European trophy.
The UEFA Cup replaced the Fairs Cup in 1971 and the first final was between Tottenham and Wolves.

Not much bothered but it was a De facto invitation tournament.

The team had to be from a city. ( Not a town).
The city had to have an established annual fair held in it.
Only one team from said city could enter. If a team was excluded using this rule, the next team down in the relevant division would be invited to take part.
Victoria Setubal had never seen snow before.

You can say that again

Michael Martin lost his marriage over it man

Who would have thought that spending your holiday in Bulgaria frantically mashing away at your keyboard at 6am, slating the plight of safc's finances while your missus makes plans to take the kids, would end in disaster.

He has offspring? :eek::eek:

Major gong :lol:

Didn't they only get in because you could only have one entrant per city?

Correct, Everton would have been in otherwise

We shouldn't laugh too much mind. The rest of the country will be in mourning.

This fella genuinely believes nufc are some sort of mythical gigantic club. He can't be typical of the geordie nation surely.

Any Premier League not involving Newcastle United is not a Premier League. In 2009 every fucka missed us, it'll be the same this season.
