I lived in Sunderland for a couple of years in the 1980s (Lenny Ashurst was the manager) and have a soft spot for the place and the team. Roker Park was one of the great football stadiums. Vaux brewed a decent pint. I can't believe what has been going on up there. You lot deserve better. With Brum winning last night it looks somewhat dodgy (yes, I am a master of understatement!) and League 1 beckons. Let's not pretend that it's good news because it isn't. It's a bloody disgrace. However, this could just be the start of a much needed clear out and a climb back towards the top. I'm a Leicester fan and have been since 1961. I was gutted when we went down to league 1 for the first time in our history but looking back that was the start of better things. Division 1 was a piece of cake. We won games, players were replaced, new owners came in and God knows how we did it but after our own great escape in 2014/15 we had that unbelievable season in 2015/16. Leicester are a medium sized club. Sunderland are massive. You will be back. New owners and a clear out. Good luck!!!

Administration was horrific. I wouldn't recommend it in the slightest. Heskey and Lineker dug deep and pulled us out of the mire.

It’s seen by some on here as a sort of panacea for all our ills but it’s not a process you can predict with any certainty. If you have the time could you explain the lead up to the event and how it subsequently unfolded.

Well the new stadium put us into huge debt. That was the main reason. As much as I loved Filbert Street it really was a dump. Relegation from the Premier League n 2002 cost us TV income. The players wage bill couldn't be sustained in the second tier. Bottom line: bad financial management. Lineker, Heskey and others forked out a few bob to save the club and the team bounced straight back to the Premier League - only to go straight back down (AGAIN!!). This whole sorry episode paved the way for the new ruling that administration would lead to a 10 point deduction. Did we get away with it? Yes we did.

No they didn't.
Must be a memory lapse. I thought it was OK at the time.

I always thought it was related to the collapse of the ITV digital deal for championship clubs?

Given that you eventually returned to the PL and actually won it how did you arrive at the point whereby you had the nucleus of a title winning team. I think it’s the Leicester story...along with Southampton, Swansea and Bournemouth doing the same that intrigues our fans. Did Leicester suddenly start making better decisions once administration had cleared the decks?

Thanks mate, appreciate the sentiments. Its difficult to see any positives but we all know things can change quickly.

They got rid of the idiots that caused it, rank and file

Yes, as I said in my reply, the loss of TV income was a major problem but had the club stayed at Filbert Street they would have been fine. Loss of TV income and stadium debt were a lethal cocktail. Anyone who thinks that administration is a route forward need to think again. We were lucky. It could have gone the other way.

Always hated Filbert Street

You & Everton had the worst views for away fans
