Leeds forum

Darn! Midfield for Sunderland looking pretty solid. Still have tons of gaps to fill elsewhere, but a decent-looking midfield emerging for the Black Cats.

I have faith we’ll find our players. Early days. We can’t win them all.

Seems like standard football fourm posts rather than evidence of mass delusion. (A lot of Leed fans are that but there's nothing here).

That was my thought when I followed the link.

Its a forum it has its nutters and delusional people just like everywhere else, but I didn't see anything Magesque,

After 50 years in west Yorks I can confirm that Yes, there are definite comparisons to be made with the Mags.

Their ‘everyone hates us & that’s cos we’re a big club’ mantra has kept them in a delusional mindset for many years.

As a club have potential to be much bigger but rarely come close to achieving it. When they do step up it never lasts.

As for their support - away support always outstanding (if troublesome) but home support is flaky.

A few seasons of repeated struggle & they’ll see crowds half as they have done in the past.

It’s a strange thing like, I guess we could be accused by some fans in league one and championship of having a big club ego, However I think at those levels we really should have. Our entire history we’ve largely either been in the top flight or fighting to get into the top flight so the past 8 years or so we were a big club underperforming. Leeds bar their days in the late 60/70s and winning the league under Sargent bilko have been a club that’s largely made the numbers up in the top flight or like others have said two or so seasons in the premier league in the best part of two decades. How some of their fanbase carries this superiority complex with them I do t know. Most of them won’t have seen them win anything and a fair chunk of them has seen them at best win promotion to the top flight and struggle. Very strange lot.
This big club stuff is a bit dated for me now given it clings on to our starting years when football wasn't anything like it is today. Even the early years were different to post WW2 when more teams were involved given some teams appeared later in history, Leeds being 1920s. I've had a look at the seasons and this is what it looks like overlapping the season positions with us in red and Leeds in black. Even Pre war you can see their climb into Div 1 and we lower mid table but the war put an end to that

This is post WW2 and the last 79 seasons so living memory for just about everyone. Without telling anyone who is who, which club do you think they'd consider to be the better of the 2? They've averaged 8.5th position in 40 top flight seasons, we've been 15th in 41 seasons. I'm not sure where you got the "made the numbers up in the top flight" for them as that applies to us even more. Overall in the 79 seasons, they've been 20th since WW2 and we've been 23rd.

Your last part about "fair chunk of them" watching them struggle could apply to all our fans who've started going from 2012 onwards given our struggles in the PL until we finally got relegated. In fact our last 24 years haven't been 'big' club performances and even less going back to 1985 which is 40 years ago. Don't get me wrong as I'm not saying we aren't a big club, just that we shouldn't really use the very start of our history as a stick to beat others in the way some do.

Just how long do we cling onto our more successful past from well over 70 years ago when football has changed so much over time? We could do in the 70s/80s etc but we've done little since the 50s and the longer it goes on the weaker it gets surely?

At the end of the day, football is fucked now as it's all about who has bigger revenues, the richest owners, location, richest fans, biggest global fan base, can 'cheat' the system finding loopholes etc. Long gone are the days of big crowds meaning a big club or players staying at clubs for any length of time as it's so easy these days for them to uproot and move on. Years ago players stayed longer at clubs as not all could be tempted away like today with multi million £ contracts so building a team now isn't as easy to do as the best players will be poached.

These days for us when it comes to 'big' clubs, it's more like 2 old blokes arguing over a comb when we compare ourselves to other clubs as it's very unlikely it will be like the glory days again when we had a full head of hair and plenty of money in our pockets 😔

You guys always make me smile. I like SFC (or SaFC for the pedants) - but the amount of Leeds threads I see on here is ridiculous. Go on Leeds WACCOE site which as a % probably has as many delusional fans as there are on this one (all clubs have them btw) however I’m not sure you would find any thread dedicated to Sunderland and if there is it will be buried well down

Trust me when I say that as a whole, we don’t have delusions of grandeur, we know our history and limitations as much as anyone and just because Sunderland are referred to in a transfer thread doesn’t mean you are ‘living rent free’

Good luck for the coming season. I hope you say up but obviously not at the expense of Leeds. Be really interesting to see how you spend as you probably have more headroom than Leeds and Burnley and getting the £ you did for Bellingham has to be applauded

Leeds fans absolutely clinging to the fact we have to make up the gap front last season.

Totally ignoring us resting and throwing the towel innwith 2 months to go. They're in for a shock imo
The gap between us and Burnley isn't relevant this year. Both of them had better Championship players but think that makes it more difficult to manage the squad going into next season. We've essentially got a blank slate to work with.

Thinking about it, perhaps forum size / #of posts, active posters etc may be a better way to assess the size of a clubs fan base

That would iron out things like trophy history, position in league table, ground size, pricing policies, shit owners, attendances etc that are simply not comparable

It would be interesting to see of the main forums associated with each club how the user metrics compared

This looks to be SFC’s main site and it’s dwarfed by WACCOE which is in turn dwarfed by ones like Red Cafe

When you have a massive superiority complex it’s hard to accept things like this. See that poster on here.

In reality they are just another team making up the numbers. You’ll win some and you’ll lose some.
We are as well we just admit it, but I do think Leeds will overlook us. We will be a new team start of the season as our spine will have changed our current squad will grow stronger…No easy lunch for anyone in the PL this year my thoughts

Not sure if serious.

.. Aye, standard shit for when someone loses out. Still nice to get one over on them mind ..

Don’t Leeds have debt off last time they were up? I suspect we are in the best financial position out of the promoted clubs and that’s showed in this deal.
The most exciting thing is we are obviously proposing an exciting project too these players to make them willing to join.
