Lee Clark

He had one very good season. One decent season when he had an injury for a couple of months. Then the stupid twat shat on us, shall we just ignore that eh Rich?

We'll never know what would have happened after the T-Shirt stuff but no one could question his commitment on the pitch when he wore our shirt. The lad was f**king outstanding midfielder for us

First season certainly. Massive drop off second season.

46 games, 13 goals in season 1. 27 games, 3 goals in season 2.

He had a nasty injury so hard to say if he could have recaptured that 1st season form had he not been a nugget.

The one thing that stood out for me was how he stood out quality wise. He dominated the midfield

I used to work for MATCH back in the mid-’90s and you would build up relationships with footballers. Obviously they were focused on the Premiership (as it was known then), so I rarely got the chance to interview Sunderland players (I did Deech once, about his DJing – lovely bloke). So, I tended to be given the NUFC players to deal with as the editor thought I'd know more about them. 😀

Anyway, got to talk to LC a lot, often in tandem with Steve Watson as they were good pals. He always had time for a chat and was as good as gold whenever I talked to him. Just lots of 'bantz', as it was later called, I guess. Obviously not the sharpest tool in the box, but then that was par for the course with a lot of players I talked to.

As mentioned, as a player he was excellent for us. Just a shame that all that good work was sullied somewhat by T-Shirtgate.
Was that about 97/98? I always remember something randomly from an interview i read with him, he's bragged about having Horny by Mousse T in his set months before it came out over here

Not a clue why I remember that bit only like.

He earned every penny when he played for us and more. He was excellent for us and gave his all in every game. If we had a few more signings like this over the years we would have been more successful.

He's a mag. We all knew that when he signed and I for one don't hold that against him.
I would never have forced him out over a daft tee shirt incident, and he could have cried off the Mags games if they bothered him. A goal scoring midfielder - we have had very few.
