This £38 billion is going to be interesting to track and see what actually gets delivered, given our history of infrastructure projects ballooning out of control from original budget estimates.

For reference, for more or less the same money, give or take £1 billion, we got a Track & Trace program deemed unfit for purpose.

We'll be lucky if we see a few pot holes fixed. Most of it will be spent across Yorkshire and the north west
 
Some of the logic behind 15 minutes city doesn’t seem that daft afterall. Mass commuting is costly on the environment and infrastructure……in short its not sustainable
Instead build more diffuse communities/ commerce/ amenities and it negates some of the need for mass infrastructure projects.
Sunderland already has a monorail-ish system. You pay what you want to ride it.

Suppose the metro only runs well half the time, so you’re right
