Kirsten declares interest

Aye fair point and I think its harder for the ECB than people are making on

young batsman know the way for an easier career is to get on the T20 franchise circuit, people like Tom Banton will have already made 10x what he would have done just as a county red ball player. Theres less motivation for a talented lad to ignore the money of white ball cricket as there is such a small chance he will make it as a red ball player.

ECB cant just be blamed for this, as Banton is going to Australia, India, UAE, T10 etc.

You could say ECB could incentivise red ball contracts more, but there are so many counties and so many players its a big financial commitment

Its just the way cricket is going, and the outrage seems to be over the fact we cant win in Australia, and for some reason ignores the fact we usually beat Australia in England.

Also its not like Australia has a mountain of test batsman coming through, Smith and Warner are the wrong side of 30 and theyve only really produced Marcus L who looks world class

Travis Head only average 18 last year in England, but somehow thats getting spun as a positive for him
Agree with most of that, apart from this.

It’s not just that we can’t win in Australia, we get absolutely battered there. They’re far far closer to winning here than we are there. They should have won in 2019.

Just me that thinks it’s a bit odd declaring interest in a role when someone is still doing the job?
Yeah that was exactly my first thought when I saw the banner come across the bottom on sky sports news.

As much has I love him to be coach and surely will be better than Silverwood.

Think it’s bad craic and disrespectful at this stage.

I thought I had missed something and Silverwood had resigned.

They shouldn’t have won in 2019 like

They only didn’t lose at lords because it rained out of nowhere

I agree with not getting battered bit for sure

And some changes need making but you don’t gear your whole cricket structure around 5 test matches every 4 years

aye its strange but considering he has been rejected at the final interview twice he is probs just thinking fuck it, I will make it known publicly

I think its also a case of the media wanting him themselves too
I am sure he could have made his interest known in a less public way.

Don’t mind saying it has put me off him slightly him doing that

Dunno like mate, Lords could have gone either way to be fair, it was by no means certain we’d have won that. Edgbaston we were unlucky losing Jimmy when we did and if he’d been fit the series may have turned out differently. However it took a once in a generation innings from Stokes to basically ensure we drew. Imo they were closer to winning that series than we were, they threw it away at Headingley to be honest.

Agreed. They were the better team in that Ashes. Anyone saying otherwise is simply kidding themselves.

Proof: Australia margins of victory were 185 and 251 runs. England margins of victory were 1 wicket (once in a lifetime performance by Stokes) and 135 runs. They were the only team to score 400+ (twice).

Smith carried them like. Everyone always mentions the Stokes inning but never mentions Smiths performance in nearly every test

Poor move, talking about a role, that is unavailable, as things stand.

Still a top coach, with international credentials.

There was arguably some mitigation in the injury to Jimmy, Moeen’s loss of form and potential World Cup hangover. But the point stands that they were more dominant and are much closer to beating us here than vice versa.

The aggregate score in Tests in this country since 2000 is 13-10 to us.

The aggregate score in Tests in Australia in the same period is 22-4 to them and counting.

Says it all.

He had a ridiculously good series yes but Lasange got 3 50s and Wade got a ton. The bowlers were very good also. Bit of a fallacy to say Smith carried them imo. Certainly no more than Vaughan in 02/03, or even Cook in 10/11.

It's a bit different comparing one tremendous innings to sustained success across a series and longer. The best players in the world dominate, that's perfectly normal
