Terrible news. Despite his mag connection he clearly appreciated the mentality in the north east regarding football and revelled in it, as a player and a manager.

The fact he took on Billy Bremner without hesitation after stitching one from Giles shows you he's got the fight in him. Keep fighting it KK.

Yea as a Newcastle manager and player hated by Sunderland for the brilliant service he gave the club. But when it comes down to it sure every single lads fan would say the same.

Bobby Robson and Kevin Keegan,both great for England and football. Managing the Mags and in Keegans case playing for them as well,does not detract from their achievements.

I had moved abroad and it was a time when there was no internet,communication with my parents was by letter and I only knew about Sunderland on coming home at Xmas or sometimes in summer. My first or second question was always, "How are Sunderland doing?

I remember the buzz when he came back from Hamburg and my Dad took me through to see him play for Southampton at Roker. It was rammed and we lost 2-1 but it was mesmerising as a kid to see a superstar in the flesh.
