Kevin Keegan

Who were his detractors? I only remember him being the superstar of the age for Liverpool and England. Keegan and Toshack.

Very sorry for him. I hope he doesn't have to suffer.
I clearly recall him getting grief from all and sundry when he lost his rag while being interviewed about NUFC losing their 12 point lead over Liverpool when he was manager of the former
It still gets often alluded to/cited on here even now

Best best best best wishes.

Yea as a Newcastle manager and player hated by Sunderland for the brilliant service he gave the club. But when it comes down to it sure every single lads fan would say the same.

I was thinking more about him when he played for Liverpool. The Keegan era at Newcastle completely passed me by. I had moved abroad and it was a time when there was no internet, communication with my parents was by letter and I only knew about Sunderland on coming home at Xmas or sometimes in summer. My first or second question was always, "How are Sunderland doing?

Know the feeling I have mostly lived overseas since 1980 but through visits home etc I kept my ear to the ground
You’ll probably find the interview I refer to on Youtube
Keegan had a meltdown and a half but as others have attested if nothing else he was passionate about his footy as a player and a manager

I remember the buzz when he came back from Hamburg and my Dad took me through to see him play for Southampton at Roker. It was rammed and we lost 2-1 but it was mesmerising as a kid to see a superstar in the flesh.
