Happy birthday KK.

There'll be some on here who class Keegan as a failure while at the same time fondly remembering a team that finished lower than Keegan ever did as a manager in the top flight.

Obviously we'd have loved to have won something but he gave us some great memories.
That's OK mate, you can have fond memories of him nearly winning the title and we can have fond memories of him bottling it. Win win.

We didnt the most in the league by a fair margin when we finished lower than you though, and considering where wed come from and our comparative resources, 7th was phenominal for us whereas second was failure for you.

At his peak (93-97, before his injury) I'd suggest it's up for debate with plenty going for Shearer.

Henry first 254 games in the premier league (before his second spell at Arsenal) 174 goals.
Shearer first 254 games in the premier league 176 goals.

You spent 2m on Beardsley, 2.5 million on reel fox and 3 million on Darren Peacock. That wasn't peanuts in 1993 mate!

To put it in perspective, our record transfer at the time was 900k

We only bought Beardsley in the summer, the other two didn't arrive until the turn of the year (February/March)

Also their fees were £1.5m, £2.25m and £2.7m. I'm not sure why you have added around 25% to the reported figures.

We'd be tits for suggesting he is better than Henry though.

Such as? I can only really remember Everton winning the FA Cup in 95 that was out of the ordinary and were 'low spending' between 93 and 97.
Seen Leicester won the league cup in 97 thought it was before then

Keegan and your amazing teams still won nowt at least yous finished 2nd won and lost a few games 4-3 and that ... Glory Days

Dusted himself off, got up and raced again and won. Well done King Kev

The other day on here people were saying Rafa is a failure for winning cup competitions but not doing so well in the league.
This is confusing now.

Newcastle were without doubt the big spenders in the 1990's much like what Man city or Chelsea are now. John Hall was the first chairman/owner to really bankroll a team. If anyone tells you otherwise they are in denial or have selective memories. Remember they broke transfer records quite often. Their disregard for defending matches ultimately cost them.

Jack Walker was tbf.

Would you say Beardsley was better than Andy Cole?

He's the main reason half of our potential fanbase in County Durham supports them.

He can go and fuck right off.

Yes. Absolutely. Cole was deadly and benefitted immensely from playing alongside Beardsley.
The year Cole got 41 goals, Beardsley also got 24.
Beardsley is best player to ever play for United.

But, you were using goals as the barometer to judge a player.

I agree with the above, by the way. Beardsley was a tremendus footballer.
