Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

I don't think I've been this excited to see a bridge ever. Might pop over on my lunch break to have a look as it'll be heaving tonight.

I'm sure interactive lighting has been mentioned on here. Hopefully that includes the ability to illuminate it Red & White for Sunderland home games.

It would look good for the England game tonight too so let's see.

Hope so.

What work have they actually been doing since the bridge was installed? It feels like the span of bridge went in more than six months ago (but I might be wrong).
Parapets , lighting , drainage , health management , 5G , security , waterproofing , landscaping , paving , so not much really.

It will have colour changing lighting , but they haven't been installed yet .

It will definitely feel transformative for the city in a very tangible way. I think the Spire Bridge will also be transformative, but that's a slower burn and more about commercial benefits. This will suddenly bring the SoL and Sheepfolds into the city centre (and encourage people to walk there rather than drive), connecting up the final pieces of the Keel Square/Keel Line/Culture House zone and will improve the matchday experience significantly for many of us. It is exciting, I agree.

I can appreciate that the landscaping is a big task but tbh the rest of it sounds like the sort of stuff that could have been sorted in a month.
