Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

Does anyone know if there is a plan in place to test how it holds up under the weight of full match-day footfall? It almost feels like we are being made the guinea pigs to test its strength. A mate of mine was on a run down the river, he worked on the Megyeri Bridge whilst living out in Budapest and said he had some real worries about the standard of work on our new footbridge. He said the abutments (end supports for transferring loads) didn’t look sufficient for the loads it would need to transfer on a matchday.
yeah, i read the structural engineers all agreed that there's no more than a 43% chance it collapses, even when full, so with that expert guidance they were allowed to open it to the general public.

Looked like a lot of work still to do and the entrance and exit points and walkways up to the stadium.

Does anybody knar what's being built behind the screens further along and also whether there's more stuff going up parallel to the South stand?
The other part closer to the ground is a new walkway over the path that goes down to the river.

This makes me stupidly excited. I thought the newly paved path between the SW corner and the Stables looked fantastic yesterday - just the sense of how a dull corner of land is nearly ready as a smooth and striking path. Pretty sure I’ll be doing the walk from Roker to the stadium via Keel Square ahead of the rugby, just for the experience.

Probably got some liquidated damages to pay if late. Mind it doesn’t look a mass of activity

There were more people working towards the other end of the bridge and also underneath it - not masses, but certainly a decent amount of activity for a weekend.

Subway is approximately opposite where CTD tiles used to be and is just the old cobbled path that leads down to the footpath on the northern bank of the river.

The above element of the subway provides a footpath that continues from the bridge to where the roundabout is opposite the Murray gates at the west stand.
Sozz mate none the wiser but best leave it there in case west stand gets his knickers in a twist that we might be discussing the pathway and environment of the bridge on a thread about the bridge.

Just thinking that the diagonal stripes of the bridge tiling makes the pattern on our new home kit now look even less like a representation of the bridge and more like an ant’s ladder.

Tbf the answer to your question is 6 posts above your original post. Look at number 4 on the pic.

Nowt wrong with asking mate but read the thread and the sheepfolds one...It must have been explained at least 100x on both over the past year

I know this is an age-old joke, but I'm starting to think that a very simple back and forth monorail between Keel Square and the Stables would be great!
