Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

Does anyone know if there is a plan in place to test how it holds up under the weight of full match-day footfall? It almost feels like we are being made the guinea pigs to test its strength. A mate of mine was on a run down the river, he worked on the Megyeri Bridge whilst living out in Budapest and said he had some real worries about the standard of work on our new footbridge. He said the abutments (end supports for transferring loads) didn’t look sufficient for the loads it would need to transfer on a matchday.
Have they factored in the masses with extra cheesy chips and panda pop when we carry the PL trophy over it, any mag trying to smash it up when we tank them 6 nowt and the odd charity bungee jump?

The possibilities are endless.

Hopefully not built by the company that built the one on the a1 Newcastle, I mean Gateshead, keep getting confused over size of Newcastle with them owning angel down the road from there.

Is this post genuine or are you suggesting experienced civil engineers and experts won't have thought about load testing?
I heard a rumour ages ago that it's was going to be closed on match day due to the capacity, this was from someone who would have known if this was the case as well. Clearly it was a wind up

Kids, don't do drugs.

So, incase I've missed anything - the bridge may not be safe for the footfall of a matchday, there's a big crack in the side that some bloke who knows his way around a bridge has spotted and after all that they're gonna do a one off opening of it for the West Ham game?

Testing on the rugby fans first because their lives mean less than us football fans

But have they considered that those fans are more likely to be women and children and less likely to weigh as much as a bloke coming back from a football match, full of Madri and Propa pies?

I can only pray they bring in a Hungarian engineer at the last minute for a quick jog-past survey.

Yeah pretty much summed up there.

Although I suspect the OP was coming off the back of a heavy session on the Stella.

Being involved in any accident would likely mean a decent payout from the council. I know when they re-did the anti-vandal / climb paint on the wear bridge I ended up with a load on my clothes and hands. I got a 2 grand payout, court agreed with me it wasn’t cleared marked as anti vandal paint.
Has anyone asked you, what exactly were you doing on the bridge to even get the anti vandal paint on yourself?

Next season should be doddle with the new bridge and the Tyne tunnel open after the works.

If the tunnel gets delayed again, think I might combust, f***ing horrendous on a weekend getting to the match.
